Wait, she said that Allstate will only insure you with an out-of-state tag for a maximum of two years, after which you have to transfer it to your home state?

This thread is not about insurance, just rego.

And I don't think anyone was claiming to get VT insurance anyway?

Yes insurance is required to be from where the vehicle is "garaged".

Those who live as nomads full time, have more flexibility, same as their legal domicile for DL & tax purposes.

https://www.skoolie.net/forums/f9/a-place-for-my-head-a-place-for-my-mail-and-a-place-for-my-bus-33738.html#post413912

But those normal folk that actually live most of the time in a fixed location, if that's also where your vehicle "lives" then that's where you must get your insurance.

Wonder what's taking mine... My paperwork got there on the 19th of Jan. I haven't received any emails from them. It's making me a little nervous.

P.S. Congrats!

This is the first time I recall someone saying you have to transfer into your state at the renewal date. I just got my registration and sticker yesterday. They sent me a $25 refund check, and only did my registration for a year instead of two years that I had requested. Glad to have the plates finally, but it sucks that it’s not registered for 2 years like I wanted. It’ll also suck to have to transfer it to my home state next year as I’ll have to pay the tax again I bet. They had an option to renew online. Wonder why we can’t just do that.

You will not beable to get vt insurance unless you live there. You have to get it in your home state. Kelly has hand picked an agent in each state to handle all types of skoolie insurance. Their number is 352-326-9300 and tell them (BEN) 2 much pressure sent ya

the vermont end around is simply a easy way to get the motorhome tag without actually finishing your conversion, nothing more.

Now if you pay for the 2 year tag as i did, at the end of that tag you will need to transfer the registration to your home state (per ms.riff) so that maybe why you havent herd back about a renewal.

I also am under the impression renewals are not a problem, staying permanently under VT's jurisdiction, no inspection required so long as you don't go there.

Just because they did not allow a 2-year initial rego, does not necessarily mean that is changing.

Feedback please from anyone who's renewed lately?

That and the request for pictures are not great omens. . .

But that was an outlier singleton right?

It sounds like you didn't send enough money to cover the two-year registration.

I hope that’s all it was. I don’t recall how much extra it was supposed to be for the 2 year. I thought I did the math right. Guess I landed somewhere between the two, and they sent me the $25 difference, and just did the 1 year.

https://dmv.vermont.gov/registrations/fees

It's $76 for one year, $140 for two.

I thought I had all the fees and taxes added up right. Apparently not. It’s registered. That’s all that matters.

I'm no lawyer, but I would think that as long as you stay clear of Vermont and the surrounding areas any cop who is going to see you wouldn't know that the front plate is a thing. That is just my thought process going along with the idea that no one seems to getting the Vermont inspection to go along with the Vermont plates.

That’s kinda what I was thinking. Didn’t know if other states enforced that from other states. KY just has a rear plate.

It's pretty easy to just put the front plate on as well as the rear. It's what VT requires and that is the state you're registered in.
