hey guys, im in CA and looking into purchasing a 20 passenger 08 econoline handicap shuttle bus.. its classified as a Truck/Cutaway apparently.. with all this c-19 stuff going on im wondering if its even possible for me to drive it legally with a class-c dl.. thinkin VT might be the best way to go just to accelerate the process, just wondering if anyone knows the difference seeing as it wouldnt be a school bus technically (my bad if this has been covered, new to the forum)

I did eventually receive my registration. If I read all this right the registration is my new title that I can take it and get registered anywhere?

Correct -- VT's "transferable registration" is the equivalent of another states "title and registration". It's just both documents tied into one...

Nope.
Only include what they ask for...

Got our license plates on April 21, and our tags on May 2 even during all the C-19 crazy!

I did notice that the yellow envelope said "VEHICLES NOT DISPLAYING A VALID VERMONT INSPECTION STICKER MUST BE INSPECTED WITHIN 15 DAYS OF REGISTRATION"... is this something we have to do? Pls help! Thanks

i suppose my only hang up at this point is having to send in the original title seeing as my vehicle is less than 15 years old.. it just seems kind of risky to me.
has anyone had to do this and had there title go missing or anything like that?

Only if you're in Vermont.

VT doesn't do emissions testing and they don't require proof of insurance (I couldn't even get insurance until I was registered in VT as a motorhome). They do require vehicles to be inspected, but unless you're actually going to travel through Vermont you don't need to have it done.

You can always drive to Vermont and hand-deliver it.

I'm gonna say no. My bus was unregistered for ~4years as far as the paper trail goes...

You can try calling VT dmv if you're really concerned but unless it was last registered in VT, it's not VT losing funds so not VT's problem per se...

VT Registration

I know this thread is specifically about buses, but I was wondering if this would work for a 1996 fifth wheel camper too? I do not have a title for it.

in other words a trailer?

I thought those were pretty straightforward in lots of states?

This thread is certainly relevant for various motorhome conversions like big vans, box trucks etc

But all self-propelled, not trailers.

I've heard of Maine being used for trailers, but just around New England, and I think more to do with taxes?

Super valuable thread here for anyone trying to register a vehicle in VT, even beyond buses and RVs. Thanks to all who've contributed, really helpful.

Has anyone recently (or ever) received their registration & sticker BEFORE their plates arrived? My sticker & registration arrived a week ago, but still no sign of the plates. So, I'm worried the plates may be lost in the mail somewhere.

When you call the VT DMV, the recording literally says you should not worry if you've received the registration but not the plates. But, I worry, because as much as I've read here and elsewhere, I've never heard of that actually happening.

I received my registration and tag today and the body type is correct(MH). Although, in the lower right hand corner it says “passenger car or school bus”(directly under the plate number box). I have read through almost this whole thread and have not seen any mention of this in a registration. Do I need to get it fixed or is this normal?

Thanks!

My title says "body type" is BS (I'm guessing that's for bus). What should I put on the VD119 under section 5 for body type? Should I put BS, bus, or other?

Also, not yet painted and we don't know what color we want it. Should we just list yellow and then do we change it when we paint? or should we decide on a color now and list that?

Do we need to fill out the section labeled "trucks" with # of axles, empty/full weight (would full weight be GVWR?), etc?

TIA
