Ok so again...how do I find the price in the NADA book? I don’t see an option to enter a VIN on their site.

Definitely shocking as the bus was already in my name in another state, but it’s summer and I need the bus
|
Yikes! So you paid almost an additional $1k in fees. Whewwww. What was the reason for not sticking with the NJ registration? Was it not titled as a RV in NJ?

Call the Vermont DMV and tell them what make/model of bus you have; they'll tell you whether or not it's in their book. Or just mail in the form with the price you paid, and they'll let you know if you need to pay more tax.

It was registered as a bus. They gave me a hard time at the MVC, still are by appointment only, and a bunch of other hoops. I might have jumped those hoops had I know

I'm going to push this to 99 pages....
So can we just register as a bus, (I'm in MO) and run, and be able to use the bus till it's officially an RV?

At that point it becomes another research area as to whether you can drive it or not.
Some states say you need a CDL because it’s a commercial vehicle, other states go on how you operate it to determine if CDL is needed. You’ll have to research your states rules on operation.

Every state is different.
Ask a trooper what they do in real life, may be very different from what's on the books in theory.

What’s in the books ultimately is what wins or not in court. What a trooper does is greatly affected by how you got stopped in the first place (just a few over the limit or were you rolling stop signs and turning right on red without stopping) and how you treat said officer…

Ok so I'm trying to fill this out and I'm a bit confused by the original post.
Quote:
- Under Section 4, check "new registration"....When it asks for your registration/plate type, manually write in "Motor Home" followed by 19. I believe this is the code they use in the system to designate personal use.
|
What does followed by 19 mean? Do I literally write Motor Home in the blank space and the 19 in the small blank space with the (#) in it?
Quote:
- Fill out Section 5 with the relevant info from your title. If you do not have a title, fill it out as best you can. Beneath that, just to be safe, I listed the amount of axles, empty weight, and gross weight of my bus under "trucks".
|
How do I figure out how many axles my bus has as well as loaded vs empty weight? I have a shorty, but no plate inside the bus stating the GVWR. Also, it's not loaded yet so how will I calculate that weight? Do I leave it blank if I don't know it or is there a certain way it needs to be done?
What do I write for "Body Type"? Mine is a shorty so do I write bus? Or Van? Or something else?
Quote:
If, however, your bus is newer than 15 years, and you are expecting a title back, include an extra $35 title fee. Check should be issued to "Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles" for the total combined amount. For added comfort, add an ADDITIONAL handwritten page outlining what you would like to accomplish and itemizing the fees you are paying.
|
My vehicle is 15yrs old...Not over 15yrs and not under 15yrs. It's a 2006. Which do I choose or write if I DO want my title back?
Quote:
Transferable registrations: Buses 15 years or older, include COPY of title + bill of sale + completed application + registration fee ($76/1yr or $140/2yrs) + 6% VT tax (or proof that tax has already been paid) + handwritten note itemizing your costs
Titles: Buses newer than 15 years old, include ORIGINAL title + bill of sale + completed application + registration fee ($76 or $140) + title fee ($35) + 6% VT tax (or proof it's paid) + handwritten note itemizing your costs
|
I'm mostly confused at which one to choose since it's not older or newer than 15 years.
Side note:
My title lists my bus as a 2007 but the bill of sale states 2006 and the VIN number pull also is a 2006. I have a version of the bill of sale also stating 2007 if they need consistency, but the Van chassis is a 2006. The bus body is 2007. Any ideas on how i'd word this or what i'd choose?

Do I send separate checks/money orders for the registration fees or do all of the totals go into one money order?

I'm trying to navigate through this thread but 12 pages of posts is too much.
Do I have to paint the bus and take the special school bus lights and stop sign off BEFORE I register it in Vermont?
And when does VT require insurance? Before or after getting tags?

Vt. does not require the inspection before registering. You only need the inspection if you go to Vt.
Vt. will not ask for your insurance at application.

I’m having the same issue. I can’t find simple answers to some things. It’s kind of stressful. I’ve resorted to using Facebook groups also because this thread is a bit overwhelming.
