I Got Insured!

I just got insured today! Yay!

National General insured me through the conversion process, so if you are just getting a bus, it’s worth a try to talk to them. Liability only, State minimum, one year limit to finish.

Congrats! I know that's a big worry for many, and a significant legal milestone!

Well, I was/am insured through Progressive, but the second I start the conversion that policy is void. The important part here, and the part I thought unobtainable, is that the National General Insurance is covering me during the conversion process.

Really!? I just did a quote through them for a generic RV and they quoted me a yearly price. Guess I need to dig in a bit.

Did they sign you as an RV?

That's what my quote is currently worked up as. Seemed really minimal as far as information and was only liability insurance.

They made me send photos of all sides and inside both directions, answer a bunch of questions.

They told me RV insurance will be available to me when it has a bathroom, stove, sink and bed.

My State Farm agent called to tell me to stop in and sign an affidavit. I wondered what it was and so stopped in. All it was was a declaration page stating uninsured motorist coverages.

Where is that at, most places allow 4 of the 6 from a list and it's your choice which 4.

We started with a Progressive "commertial vehicle for personaluse" policy. As long as it was a "van" it was covered ... liability only. As soon as we start to convert it, it is not covered. We switched to Allstate (Kelly Newsome @ 352-326-9300) and have it insured as an RV. They did not care what was done to it, only that we call it an RV. The premium (liability only) was also 1/4 that of Progressive. For less than the Progressive policy, we can have full coverage.

If the under conversion endorsement is available in your state then National General will look at insuring the bus while it's under conversion. Once you're done working on it, you send in updated photos and they'll remove that endorsement and maybe allow higher liability rates. Unfortunately they won't give any comprehensive or collision coverage, yet.

I've been asking the underwriters and our rep every time we talk.

Will an induction cooktop satisfy the "stove" requirement?
