Idaho requirements?

Will be moving to Idaho eventually so figured I should check up on what their requirements are for a bus conversion to motorhome status. This way I won't have to make additional changes once moved.

Not having much luck with their DMV site. Is there another department? Anyone know requirements or where to find them?

Well we just bought a bus in the past week and we took it in to our DMV and they wanted us to get non-business commercial plates because it doesn't meet Idaho's requirements.

I've attached images of the requirements form they gave us at the DMV.

What really baffles us is in Washington it is already registered as a motorhome.

We just opted for non-business commercial truck licensing for now.

Why didn't you just go in and transfer the title to your MH to your name? Did you open a can of worms for yourself by offering too much info?

No when they went out to the bus to read the VIN they noticed it was "lacking" motorhome quality's.

Anyways, just thought I would share what I found out about Idaho's requirements.

Idaho

Hi,

We live in Idaho. Bought a bus last year. We did a "cheat" that I read about here on the forums. We registered our bus as a motor home in Vermont. Vermont sent us tags, plates, the whole 9 yards. Then we took the Vermont plates to the Idaho DMV, and registered our "motor home" in Idaho. Now we have Idaho MH plates. Didn't take the bus to the DMV for an inspection or anything either. Which is good, because we are still in process of converting it.

Hope this helps.
Michele

This is how simple it should be on something that is already titled as something other than a school bus. I shouldn't need anything more than a Bill of Sale and a title to walk out with plates in my name.

I live in Idaho and am wondering about this.

Seems once someone gets the electrical installed, thst supplies the refrigeration and ac/heat.

A propane line or two for a stove, pow. There's the four requirements.

Add a sofa bed and a simple dinette, and those are the final full requirements.

Anyone actually completed this process in the Gem State?

We live in Canyon County , Idaho. Got our bus registered as RV with no prob by going through state of Vermont. Our bus isn't completed, but since it's already registered as RV we don't need to do any inspections or anything.

Although I live in AZ, I just returned from Idaho this evening...and I'll be going back in a couple of weeks...to revive and retrieve a vintage bus. I was in the Nampa/Star/Eagle areas. What a beautiful place with great people.

Anyway...the point of this post was to tell you about a mobile diesel mechanic I met there. A super nice guy who helped me out and didn't want to take any money for his time. I insisted, of course. But he seemed really honest, was very pleasant and knowledgable, and he loves buses. Tom Blair - Blair's Service and Repair (20 571-2271 He's in Eagle, but has a nice service truck and only does mobile work.

Michele,

Did you have to actually go to Vermont or do you have a physical address there? I’m curious to hear more about the process. We just brought our bus home from Missoula yesterday to Boise and I’m eager to get licensing and insurance taken care of.

Thank you for your help!
