He already commented that his current insurance will not cover the new purchase.
I can almost guarantee that if you go into register it and don't have proof of insurance you will not get it registered.

"Iowa's Motor Vehicle Financial Responsibility Law states that all drivers with cars registered in the state are expected to carry liability insurance with limits of at least 20/40/15. You do not need to provide proof of liability insurance when you register your car in Iowa."

There are going to be exceptions to every rule. While insurance is not required "when you register" you forgot to dd the next line:
"However, you should have it in place before you start operating on the road, as law enforcements may suspend your license or fine you when you fail to provide valid proof."
I see lots of uninsured registered vehicles there and no one knows unless you get pulled over, seems archaic. Here in Ga. if your insurance lapses, they notify state and they pull your license. The cops don't even ask for proof of insurance anymore as that info is all on the computer when they run your tag.
Pretty much every state has the "Financial Responsibility " clause. But you have to have an escrow account or bond in place.

I'd go through a local agent vs trying to do it online.

Out of 33 local agents, only 1 had ever heard of a skoolie. The 1 that knew what it is can insure me as soon as its an RV.

Try "Grange Insurance" ............. never had a problem with them doing a bus "motor home"........
Next is you should always check your states laws before you go buy something such as this bus............
Iowa has some sketchy laws on buses... not too bad on registering them as a Motor Home it seems....
But as far as operating them..............hmmmmmmmmm...
DID YOU READ---->
https://www.iowadot.gov/mvd/busasmotorhome.pdf
ALWAYS DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST.....not after the fact and you save yourself MUCHO STRESS and problems.
A lesson I learned a very long time ago that has saved me since many, many, many times.
Best of luck.
PS..... no hauling a bus full of drunken 1%ers in Iowa!!...Obey the law!!!!!

Best not to stress.
ps---- 1%er = outlaw bikers...
If you read the bus laws...they make a point to talk about bike clubs with buses and them and others not drinking in a bus in Iowa..........lol
Makes ya wonder what happened back in the day in Iowa that caused a special clause in the law for bikers in buses....
My imagination is causing me to grin over the many answers to this riddle.
