Insurance work around?

As I am having a bit of trouble finding insurance, I was thinking about what non-governmental agencies use buses. I thought of my granddaughters faith kids bus. Churches! I can get ordained and registered for about $35. I'm guessing starting a 501.c church will be reasonably priced. Now you are no longer a private user, you're a staff member of a church. The bus is used by the minister to spread the message and he lives in it while spreading.

Pretty easy work, you just walk up to folks and say "Hey, have you heard the good news?".

Man, I am a half a bubble off plumb aren't I ?

Well, Reverend Jarhead, I think it's a great idea. You can officiate ECCB's upcoming nuptials.

I went online several years ago and got ordained. It was a fun evening. I photoshopped myself in some fancy vestments and printed/ laminated the ID card. Far as I went.

Maybe read a few L. Ron Hubbard books for inspiration.

I'd be interested in hearing more about what you find out, legality wise. It would seem insurance would be pricey because they would think you were hauling people who can get injured and hire lawyers. Actuary stuff.

I'll have to talk with the staff at the granddaughters church. It's a small one( the church) and they use the the bus to haul kids around. I wouldn't think they could afford an expensive policy.

L. Ron was kinda right, plastic is evil.
I wouldn't go by reverend, it'd be SGT.

I can also ask my brother- he is an accountant for a Church.

So, L Ron did the whole nautical command structure, you'd do similar landlubber version? I can help with logo/graphics and have extensive Coat of Arms vector collection.

Church of Bus , or COB. You could offer oil changes at the services.

And I too am an "ordained minister" with the Church of Universal Life.

Its no longer a private vehicle. It would become a commercial vehicle. Different type of insurance. Weigh stations in some states and completely different insurance, but let me know how it turns out.

Read this on another site:

"Licensing Standards for Church Bus and Van Drivers. Drivers, whether paid or volunteer, must have a commercial driver's license (CDL) if they operate a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight greater than 26,000 pounds or a vehicle designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver."

If it's just insurance, it is much easier once RV. I used USAA and they kicked-me to Progressive w/ their discount. I have $500K liability and it's $150/yr or something. No collision/comprehension as I don't do that.

In Montana you're limited to 10 including the driver. At 11, you have to get an "S" endorsement on your class d license. Over 26,000 pounds, you need a class "B" license. Not sure right now if a B in offer non-commercial.

The license isn't the problem, insurance is. If I was a business or a farmer, no problem. Regular Joe, no ,no, no.

I'm not most people. I haven't gotten a ticket in a decade +. Been with USAA for 35+ years, no accidents. Insurance companies just cash my checks and send me little card.

I insure my car through USAA but they won't touch my buses.

They have arrangements with specialty insurers, so they transfer you. Progressive thru USAA or something. Bill says Progressive. Mine is an RV.

USAA let me add a bus once. It was "MH" on the title. Got into a fender bender. USAA put their legal team in action- against ME. They're ruthless bastards.
Guy sued me, fixed some really minor damage with crazy expensive, unnecessary parts and I spend two years of ALL my spare money paying for it.
That's when I realized how worthless insurance really is, and unless its something tragic, I've not filed any claims in more than a decade.

in ohio a church bus is basically a school bus without any school lights.. must have DOT number, have inspections, yes logbooks of pre-trip, hoiurs apply, including resets, etc.. even though a church only drives their bus like once a week, the DOT cand and does want logs filled out and up to date.. which often means on-duty time for the poor driver filling out daily logs of a bus that sits 6 days..

They bullied you, and the system let them. They didn't have a case, but beat you because you couldn't afford to fight them.

In most arenas that is called a SLAPP suit.

It was tough to bear. I felt I'd done everything right.
The guy who's truck I'd damaged restored his entire old 80's landcruiser with ALL NOS PARTS. He spared no expense. It was maybe a $1500 daily driver rig till I hit it, now its a show queen.

I wonder if they do this to actual veterans, I'm just the grandson of an officer.

They aren't like they used to be, that's for sure. They are just another money-grubbing group that will take anyone now.

When it was just Officers/family, their rates were low because those people are generally responsible.
