Is it safe to take a picture of title?

I'm in the process of listing and selling my bus conversion. I have a bunch of pictures and videos, but am hesitant to picture the title.

I have shared a picture with an interested person, but blacked out the title number and address. Is that appropriate or is it safe to share the entire picture?

The Google had title theft as possible. Claiming the original was lost and filing for a replacement with everything listed on the original. (Like would be visible on a picture of the original)

Am I being paranoid? Thank you for the help!

Might Be Something to This

I've only read warnings against sending strangers photographs of titles or registrations. I've noted several vehicle sale listings where the seller announces, in their ad, "No photos of title due to scams/scammers."

I don't know the details of the scam or any cautionary tale. But, I am looking forward to reading more on this subject.

Cash on the barrelhead.

I can see no reason to either adding a photo of a title to a listing, or sending it to a person, redacted or not. What would be the purpose? To prove that the vehicle is titled? Give the purchaser the title when they pay for the bus.

I wouldn't post it publicly, but I also don't see a high risk in sending a picture to an interested party who specifically requests it and has passed the scammer sniff test.

They may want to see that its in your possession and there's no liens prior to travelling to see the vehicle, or (depending on the state) see that it's not a salvage title.

Fun fact, not all states put salvage status on the title, ahem, Illinois. Learned that lesson the hard way

I would blur out some information, but why would you need to take a picture of it?

One good way to pass the scammer sniff test ....

Count my boy to NO PHOTO.
I. see no reason AT ALL why you would need to show you have title ,…. Until you in front of a Notary transferring ownership.

After the first questions and communications have been done and the vehicle is more then 30 min away I always ask for an image of the title. I will take it to my favorite dot messenger to see if it is valid and good before proceeding.
If seller does not want to produce an image of the title then I have no further interest.
