Especially when you're asking about insurance providers, it matters where you are.
You may need commercial for personal use insurance until it is converted.

If you are looking just to make it home, many auto policies will cover a new purchase for up to 30 days regardless of the vehicle type. Check with your current auto insurance as this may apply.

I just paid for a non-commercial policy through progressive commercial, 6 months for $160 on a Gillig Phantom for liability only. It helps that my best friend's wife is an insurance broker. She called 4 or 5 places after getting no bids from anyone, someone from progressive finally thought to transfer her to Progressive Commercial. They had 0 issue with it all. When it is titled as an RV, we will figure out full coverage insurance at a stated value.

Thanks!

To the OP, if this is about Kansas, please change the title to include the keyword

Kansas

as well as insurance

in order to make it come up when searching.

I don't want to come across as a sales guy but she can sell insurance in 48 states. I just hope to get people in touch with someone that has just made this happen.

James, your rates and type of insurance is exactly what I pay. I called Kelly but after a few back and forth no return calls I gave up. Turned out she didn't have the ability to insure in AZ. Went with National General.

I second National General simply because A) they specifically address bus conversions on their website and B) I used them when I intended to buy a bus and had proof of coverage in less than a day.

A sympathetic contact that can help out nationally for them too,

or at least in those states where they offer it

would be a great contribution to the community.

Call Kelly Newsome at Allstate Insurance Company. She is in Florida and has specially trained agents nationwide on how to do what is needed to get your skoolie underwritten and insured as a RV. Don't call your local Allstate agent. Call/email Kelly first. She will connect you with the agent that she has trained. My "local" agent is 300 miles away. No inspections/photographs are needed or wanted. Her number is 352-326-9300.

Problem is, if it has not yet been converted to an RV - as per their definition of that status - and you get in some horrendous expensive liability accident

by not being straight with them, in many states they would not have to cover you, and you could lose everything, if you had not taken steps to be judgment-proof beforehand.

Insure as private bus or a truck.
