North Carolina?

So, I’ve been reading a lot on converting a bus. Really torn between a short or mid size bus at the moment.

I currently do not have CDL’s and as I’m color blind, I’m not sure I can even obtain them. So that leads to my next question - I’ve seen that you can retitle your bus as an RV.

I’ve been trying to contact the DMV with no luck at the moment. I’ve been getting no response and only automated messages. I can’t find anything definitive on the ncdot.gov website either.

Do I need CDL’s to drive my bus in NC? What about insurance? And how do I go about retitling said bus?

your NC drivers license allows you to drive anything up to 26000 gvw.
and as long as you are not using your bus to make money you do not need any special license like a cdl.
not even an air brake endorsement.
both of my buses are insured through nationwide as
bus for personal use in a commercial policy.

CDL is only required if it has seating for 16 or more, take the seats out and you're good to go.
