I know insurance is a big deal with bus conversions, and wanted to share some info that may help others. I was able to obtain RV insurance for my
unfinished conversion. It came to about $360 for the year., and is an RV policy (not commercial for private use). I contacted Good Sam, who put me in contact with Alex Waterman. His contact info is below:
Alexander M. Waterman
Senior Agent
National General
Office: 314.493.8691
Email:
Alexander.Waterman@NGIC.com
he emailed me that, depending on underwriting, he can insure a pre-conversion bus in the following US states:
AL, AR, AZ, CO, GA, IA, IL, KY, LA, MS, MO, NH, NM, OH, OK, PA, SD, TN, TX, UT, WY
He also wrote that he can insure conversions in all 50 states "except Massachusetts where they would need to contact a local agent who does NGIC".
He did specify that they cannot insure conversions with wood stoves or roof decks due to the liability. According to him, the problem with the roof decks was from people falling off and injuring themselves.
Hope this helps someone!
