I'm in California. Today, I purchased Progressive Commercial insurance for personal use. When I called, I specifically asked for commercial insurance on a bus for private use. She asked me what my need for a commercial vehicle was. I was honest and told her that I intended on converting it to an RV. She stated that they did not cover conversions; however, they will cover the bus until the conversion is finished. She also stated that I needed to "follow the rules" and not use it as an RV until it was completed. No camping in it! Once completed, I would need to find RV insurance elsewhere. I have full coverage ($750k for $700 per year)

Smile

I was also told that Progressive would only cover my bus until I began the conversion (I was primarily looking for insurance in order to drive it home to Texas from Colorado after buying it at auction). They said as soon as I began converting it, it would no longer be covered. I paid $180 for six months coverage. I just registered it as a Private Bus in Texas, which of course requires insurance. So I guess now I'll drive it around for a while before gutting it.

If you all remember the TC2000 I bought after it was impounded for no insurance. I just found paperwork that showed he had a Commercial Automobile policy from Progressive. Progressive sent him a letter on 12/10/18, the day of expiration, notifying him they would not renew, no reason given.

Well in todays mail I got a Nonrenewal Notice. The reason given is that it's because it is a converted school bus. Well that's what it was when they wrote the policy. So did we inundate them with Skoolies and they changed their policy this year?

Time to get Flo involved. She can straighten out those non-progressive actuaries in her company, or whatever they are called nowadays...

Entirely possible, as she seems to wear a lot of different hats for her company!

That's where the fine print covers their arse and not yours. Could be they would if professionally built but that isn't the case.
Might be great discrimination suit depending on how your original policy reads. Maybe get a pro to read it to you.

So no coverage now period, even to build it?

I'm still covered until 9/6, which if all goes well I will be near completion and make a trip to Ct. 8/29-9/3. At that point I'll start shopping because even though I know State Farm will cover it, I remember their quote being higher than I wanted to pay. I may end up back at Allstate who wrote me the policy on the TC2000. That was only $48 down, $26 a month.

As I've said elsewhere on this site... Progressive can suck it. And 'Flo' isn't as cute as she used to be anyway.

When quoting online, via progressive, its commercial for personal use. Had no problems doing it. $312 for the year.

Is progressive still offering coverage? I'm looking for a solid insurance company. Does anyone know if you can get a price break for holding a multi vihicle policy?
