Renovations & Homeowners Ins. Questions
Hi everyone,
Hopefully this is the right place to ask, but I'm a little stumped and need some help! Long time lurker, first time poster... Sorta long-winded question so thanks for bearing with me...
So I'm in Indianapolis and I purchased a bus back in Nov 2019. It is already titled as an RV by the state, its basically livable (needs some light electric work and water line work) and it was formerly insured at one point by the previous owner, so all of that seems fine.
From the time we bought it until now its been in the shop. We found a guy who could do some work on it and store it for us for a while, but it's time to get it moved. Due to COVID-19 our original plan of buying property to store/work on it fell through.
So now to the question: We have to store this thing on a property that is not ours (all of our options are very rural, lots of land). If we work on it while it's stored is the homeowner at risk of losing their homeowners ins or at any kind of legal risk? I would assume that by working on it we lose our insurance on the bus itself, but does that affect the person who's land it lives on?
And just to note, we aren't talking huge renovations here. Mostly fixing some wiring, getting water hooked up, rearranging the layout, etc.
Last thing we want to do is get it confiscated or cause the homeowner harm by making renovations. Looking for advice from anyone who's been in a similar situation.
