Texas non CDL class B

I realize that our bus is 30,000 gvw, which apparently requires a non commercial class b. Has any one had experience with this? My bigger question is how to you practice in your own rig legally ?

Not legal

I have just been driving it. I was in the same situation. Needed class b non cal. I just now managed to get my title transfer here in Kansas. When I did the paperwork I derated my bus from 26,500 to 26,000. Just so I could avoid. However, with driving the bus, I think I would have passed test with no problems. Drive whenever you can and become familiar with your bus. Can you pay local bus driver to spend time with you? What are the rules in Texas about this? I know I was illegal for a year.

When I was a teenager here in Virginia to get my class A I needed a number of hours, which I do not remember how many, of driving a truck to get it. Never did find out how you do that legally. So just drove the required hours with my Dad in the truck with me, much like one would do with a learners permit, and applied for my class A. I let that expire a while ago because I thought CDL superceeded the class A..... Should look up todays rules on that.
