Question Titled as RV, will that RV designation transfer to new state?

Hi all - I'm looking at buying a schoolie that is already titled/registered as an RV (in Virginia). I need to transfer the title and register in another state (Maryland).

From my understanding, Maryland requires conversions to follow the 4 of 6 RV requirements rule, which the Schoolie doesn't actually have. It is white, no stop signs, and has electrical, but other than that is an empty shell (no AC, bathroom, running water).

My question is, if it's already titled as an RV in a different state, will my new state honor that same title?

Thanks for your help!

They should...

Do they do inspections on imported vehicles?

If it I think I’d go in and register it and not say a word.

Ugh. Yeah, after looking more into it Maryland has a very intense safety inspection on all imported vehicles.

The point of VT rego is to carry you over the conversion timeline until you have it ready, meeting the home state requirements.

Continuing on forever as a VT bus would I think only work for true nomads

Safety implies (to me) the mechanical's of the vehicle -- brakes, steering, and possibly emissions... To me there's nothing wrong with that...

The whole "does it qualify as an RV" could be a different department...

I'm sure Maryland has an informative website...

This bus/RV is *NOT* imported, at least not from outside the U.S. which is what imported usually implies. This is simply a transfer from another state which usually has much lower requirements and standards.

Also, a "Safety Inspection" is *NOT* a conversion inspection (though Maryland may do both), as Banman said, it usually covers lights, brakes, tires, suspension, etc.

in this context, obviously imported as in, "from out of state"
