Question Virginia Requirements

Hello!
So I have been trying to find requirements for bus conversions in Virginia, and I can't find what I need. I need to know what needs to be in the bus for it to be considered an RV. With most other states I'm seeing that it needs cooking facilities (sink, fridge, stove), a bed, and AC or Heat and power, and maybe a compost toilet, but I don't know what i need specifically for Virginia. I leave for a three month road trip in just over a month, and our insurance is willing to charge us as an RV rate without the title change if we have the requirements, but they didn't know what they were either. haha thanks for any help!!

Most states require you have a variable of 4 of 6 items that need to be installed:

Cooking appliance with onboard fuel source
Gas or electric fridge
Toilet with exterior evac
Heat/AC with power other than engine
Potable (drinkable) water supply
110v power supply

You only need any 4 of the 6.

Take a look at: http://www.skoolie.net/forums/f18/vi...ion-11375.html

You could go the Vermont route.

Get it titled as an RV by mail from VT and then take the VT RV title to VA and get get a VA RV title.

VA seems not straightforward, "specially constructed" is the catchall Other category. Calling or visiting the DMV may be a good idea.

I did the Vermont thing. Try going to your local DMV if you have not already. Calling has not worked to well in my experience here in Virginia, you might get lucky though.

Yeah I've talked to several DMVs and any that even kind of sound like they know what they're talking about made it sound like a process that'll take months. How does one go the vermont route?

There is a really good thread on this forum about Vermont. Vermont does have a very good website too. It is best to look up the thread, as there are a few things that are not quite intuitive on the forms from Vermont.
The forms are online, we did need to print the forms, and provide a bill of sale using their form. We did send pictures to prove it was indeed a motorhome. That is the term they use. Sent all that with a check, and a few weeks later the tags came in the mail.
