Not far from Red Rocks, I want to take my grand daughter to her first concert there, I will have to look into that, sounds good. Thanks for the tip. I am looking at google maps right now trying to figure out the boondocking spot. Thanks for the tip.

Rock on !

Here's a look at what I was talking about. Mid-September it got close to freezing at night, but we didn't have heat or electricity other than lights and we were OK. Cold, but OK. Daytime was pretty comfortable.

Rosie chillin' at the boondocking site.

Sunset at our free campsite.

Panorama of the site.

The road.

Panorama of the Collegiate Peaks.

Mid-September fall colors. Lots of birch trees.

Taylor Lake Reservoir

$12/night campground just before the boondocking sites. I don't think they had electric but they did have a water pump.

View from our campsite at River's End.

Panorama at River's End with Taylor Lake and the Collegiate Peaks in the background.

Wonderful rainbow after a storm.

The edge of our site at River's End.

Cottonwood Pass. Continental Divide at 12,126 feet.

The road just on the other side of the pass. The whole thing is 18 miles I think. Slow driving only!

That would be great! My bus won't be near ready for the drive by then, but maybe the wife and I could come down, bring some pics, and a tent, share ideas and talk bus.

Colorado Meeting

Ya we can meet on the plains and make bus talk. If we want to meet again we can view scenery and make bus talk. Colorado has so much to offer for bus lovers, but we have to start somewhere, so let us start on the plains and just talk bus and move to more scenic areas and talk bus and everything else.

Is everyone still thinking the weekend of the 26th? I've planned the day off early from work on the 25th so I can get a head start to Sterling. I may have the bus legal by then so I could drive it up!

I just have a little weight distribution problem with my solar battery bank (almost 900lbs on 1 side). I may get another ride-height control valve and make the rear bags independent so I can get rid of this gangsta' lean

i'm looking forward to meeting some other skoolies!

the weekend of the 26th is good for me.

off the top of my head i think the park is $7 entry fee and ~$20 camping fee. i'll double check in the next day or so.

I am planning to get to Sterling State Park on Friday night the 25th and staying Saturday the 26th and leaving on Sunday sometime. The crowds should be gone by then and the weather should be good so it will be a great time for buses! I hope we can get more buses from the front range to make the short trip out.

Very Cool!!!

the more the merrier

there are 3 campgrounds there..... the north ones are very exposed

the 2 southern campgrounds are:

chimney view (no electric $16/night)

or

inlet grove (electric $20/night)

it gets dark out here..... astronomers like the dark skies

its a popular fishing hole too

here are some links to the park

I do not need electricity but I would stay at the campground with electricity if everyone else is. Do we need to make reservations or is it first come first serve?

i scoped out the campgrounds today....

the inlet campground seems to be the most privacy.

prime spots there are 116 and 117, i just reserved #117 for myself. the spots are as close to the shore as you can get...... the shore is a few hundred feet (the lake is low). spots 115 and 114 would make for a very cool skoolie picture if we are all together.

there are bathrooms with running water, midway in the campground.

i'll be at #117 on Friday and Saturday nights.

feel free to reserve the your sites.... just warning you there was another $10 reservation fee making the total $50 for the 2 nights, plus there will be a $14 park fee when you get there.

We reserved spot #116 for Friday and Saturday nights. The other spots mentioned in Turf's post were still open when we reserved so it would be great to have a bunch of Skoolies at Sterling State Park in September.

Art lovers

For all of the skoolies along the front range in Colorado that may be considering a trip out to Sterling for our Colorado Skoolie meet, there is great local sculptor in the Sterling area. Stop at the rest stop on the interstate and you can see one of his bronzes outside of main rest-stop building. If you like what you see you can proceed to downtown Sterling and stop at the public library (there is a large parking lot adjacent to the library) there you can see to of his wood sculptures in the main lobby. If you are still interested you can get a map at the library for all of the locations in town that feature his work. This artist is phenomenal and well worth taking the time to look at his work. I hope to meet all of you next weekend at Sterling State Park.
