The junkyard you were in where is it? and name of it? I see "Silver streak" campers in there. We just sold our 23ft one, but have wanted the pickup truck one for some time, and I see two in the photo, one for sure is Silver streak the other may be or not.

They even used large doses of radiation to treat enlarged lymph nodes in the necks of children. My wife had that done and also had to have her thyroid removed some 45 years later.

Their grandparent's kit may have included a bottle of laudanum.

I never watched the show much, but I'd bet Richard Dean Anderson never had the stones to take a 20 yr-old bus all over hell and half of creation. Johan is the real MacGyver.

We just got out of Santa Fe in time. It started raining. We originally wanted to go to losAlamos to finalize our nuclear tour of interest but rain forecast made us go the opposite way.... South. We drove small cute roads and stopped in Moriarty along I40.... In our case rt66.
Just a truck parking lot on the west side. When we woke up the rain had followed us South. Got breakfast at Lisa's place. By that time it was snowing. Someone at Lisa had a crown or the like so I took a shot of lovers of the style.

I was kind-of surprised you did not catch snow in Albuerquerque!

Hi Native... Not sure Albuquerque was may 6 and 7.
Moriarty was may 9 /10.

It was fun driving in bad weather as we knew we were getting out of it. Plus windshield and solar panels got a free wash.

After Lisa's truck stop breakfast we continued direction of Alamogordo. It seems that place is expanding. Maybe no surprise with holloman afb in town.

We visited the space museum. Good fun with trying to land the space shuttle on their simulator. We all made it once in between many failures and that was only controlling the descent rate.

We left the place at closing and then resupplied at Walmart.
The commander of holloman allowed free camping on a small lake. Lake was polluted and smelly but still a great stop just 1 mile from White sands NP.

Tell them that I would be MORE than happy to clean it up for that price. I would, however, need the payment in full up front. You know.... for expenses and equipment and such.

Not Super Fun, nor particularly Super Fiduciary rewards for yours truly...
Only corporate America can afford the bona fides to win the contracts.
Not that they try much harder than the contract stipulates.
So...
Caca gets done.

Oh wow! I graduated from Alamogordo Senior High!!! Go TIGERS!!!

My dad was stationed at and we lived on Holloman AFB. I have a lot of fond memories of that place.

The lake and the museum DID NOT exist when we were there. Of course, White Sands did, but it was a National Monument at the time. How time flys!

Next morning we drove over to White sands NM. It was busy but we found a place where we could have Rosie run around without a high chance of encountering the arm of the law.

Late in the afternoon a pretty nice thunderstorm with rain and wind unloaded. By that time we were back at the visitor center to finalize the junior ranger program. They had nice tasty water so we used child labor to haul water for our tank in one gallon jugs.

In the evening we camped again along the lake at the holloman afb. Nice sunset without wind.

I wanted to go to the missile museum but the subject is not great with kids. Kind of hard to explain to kids all the equipment we have on hand to kill other people. Figured that we would be back with older kids and hope that the museum is still open or that by that time it is off limits.

Words cannot explain just how jealous I am.

Ok, I'm kidding. These are such good times for you and the family.

Yes that lake is man made. Probably to collect the chemicals that were in the soil.

It is indeed perfect to be mobile.. Now it gets warmer then pleasant and just pack up and go.

In the morning we left with the plan to go to Roswell.
We stopped one more time in Alamogordo for a thrift store but it was closed. Neat design ..see pic..
Then since we had driven the "other road" 70 years ago we decided to take 82 thru Cloudcroft.
Nice climb. Mostly 2nd and 3 gear. It was slow and fun...at least for me.

Finally on top everybody needed a pee stop. Four stain trails next to Dory.
The a shortcut rd 13..sagebrush valley road. Very poor bumpy road. We should have gone on to artesia. Oh well.
Roswell was fun. The alien museum worse then 5 yrs ago. Before they had a latex alien that moved a little. It was gone now and not replaced or repaired. Sad. The only artsy piece I saw was the bend and painted tire thread...not a Möbius ring but clever nevertheless.
We left and took 70 direction Clovis. Just over the Pecos river is a cool spit where you can pull of and cool of in the river. That was fun. We stopped in Portales at the wally.

I remember taking that road up to Cloudcroft during the road portion of driver's ED in high school. It was a nervous ride with 5 of us student drivers taking turns.

I am impressed with Dory's capabilities. I remember the grade as being steep at points. It is amazing how many ecological climates you pass through on the trip up there.

Hi Native..that would be an impressive road to get exposed to for your driver exam.

From wally we drove on to Clovis and found a breakfast place to do a late Moms day celebration. Then we drove along the railroad and many a cow Nirvana.... Hazmat..can you come up with a better name...
Finally in Amarillo we visited Cadillac Ranch. Busy place..
Well what can I say.. It was getting hot...so I started using my cooling vest.. ..pretty nifty eh... Military surplus...nice to get some of yhe tax dollars back...all I40 east now. Checked out the leaning water tower and the conoco tower in shamrock
We rested in the last rest area before Oklahoma.
Started driving again at 2AM in the morning.. Thru Oklahoma and stopped at the wally in Shawnee on the other side.

Nope, really can't come up with a better'n.
My first name is Matthew, after all.
If I decide favorably for a career change, perhaps one that involves easing access and egress of paying patrons at a fine hotel, suppose I could become a, "Door.Matt"

Nah. Sorry.
Just not feeling it...

Was raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Wonderful place, but kinda wet right now.

Stay safe! Texas, Oklahoma, and a number of other states in that vicinity are experiencing wicked weather right now.
