Get together in Indiana?

I moved to Indiana recently and finally drove the bus down from Michigan a couple of weekends ago. It was the last thing I moved before selling the house there

I was surprised to see that Midwest Transit is only about 2.5 miles from our new place. Should be handy for parts if needed.

I am wondering if there are any Skoolie gatherings here in Indiana. It would be fun to get to know some people down here.

Bill

I may just do that.

Have to think about when, where, and how.

I need to find that FB group.. have to be careful who to share that one with.. unfortunately amongst some of the bus enthiusiasts is animosity toward people converting vs preserving... Grrr.. never understood that but oh well..

I enjoy the fact people are interested in busses whether restoring or converting them.. its all fun to me..

We'd definitely go if we're still around and haven't taken off on our travels yet. Be nice to let our bus stretch her legs a little!

Once we get back on the road (march?) we're going to make a real effort to hit meetups and conventions and such as often as we can. Made a lot of awesome friends across the country, that's what it's all about.

I don't understand people's attitude about things why would someone converting a bus have negatives toward someone preserving or modding one??? Gene

Gdog - the other way... there are a couple people on a facebook vintage bus group which despise those converting their busses into RVs or homes.. they think all school busses should be yellow with seats... I get it everyone has their preferemces ..which is why everyone has their own bus.. oh and at least one of those on said group doesnt even own a bus.. I caiught heck from him for painting my bluebird red and doing the drivetrain mods to it...

never had any issues from skoolies giving me heck about the fact I dont convert my busses.. and yeah one of them is going to be yellow and original.. but I surely have no issue with people doing what they want to their busses.. I may inform someone if I think what they are doing is going to result in safety issues or ruining their project.. but ultimately I lovde the fact others find busses interesting... converted, original, modded, and in between.

Where do these bus preservation wanks think we're all supposed to store these museum pieces?
I guess they're rather see the buses exported or scrapped?

Christopher I agree differences are what makes the world interesting and I also agree that folks coming to this forum are for the most part looking for help and when I have something to offer I do and like you sometimes I offer my view on suitability for their needs. Gene

I can understand people seeing a "classic" from the appropriate era being remade into a skoolie might get a bit upset, but the majority of us have more of the new lines, right? 3800's, Vistas, TC1000/2000's, and SAf-T-Liners seem to be the majority.

None of those scream "classic bus" to....well.....pretty much anyone.

What’s funny is some of the worst offenders don’t even own a bus and are just out of high school.. so alas when I think of classic I think of the busses I first rode on for school which were old Navistar LoadStars and ford B series.. an 18 year old these days likely rode a 3800.. the vintage bus board tries to hold vintage to 20 years and older.
Alas though an open mind even for the classics , the real classics, look at what ol trunt and tango are doing with busses in the WW2 era.. arguably if they weren’t converting them heys likely long have been in the scrap heap.. even a preservationist has to ask himself would he rather see that old superior and Wayne as a nice conversion going down the road or would he rather know it was flattened into a pile of nothing?

Exactly. There was a Crown for sale a few months ago by one of these types and the seller said they would not sell to me if I plan to raise the roof etc. If they are that concerned about preserving them, they need to open a museum or donate it to one. They would never know what I did with it after the sale and frankly none of their business. I would rather see a modified Crown (done right) than crushed.

Will do. We just moved down here. My wife wanted to be closer to family. And I think it was also an effort to get me out of the Cogen power plants I had been running for over 20 years. That was a 60+ hour a week job.
Also, we were in town and owning large vehicles like a bus and an army truck was a challenge on a lot 75ft wide. And with neighbors on the town council.

We now have 5-1/2 acres and finally have some room to spread out. Possibly even invite people in for a weekend bus get together. Though it would have to be in the summer, so the ground would be good and hard. And we wouldn’t really have a place for anyone to plug in. So maybe a nearby rv campground would be more suitable.

Full timing has to be a challenge this far north. Though we have been real lucky so far this winter.
