i wish i lived closer to central iowa!
i was doing some figuring the other day, and decided it costs about $30/hr in fuel to drive the bus. I need to get back on veggie oil!
with current lower diesel fuel prices, i think it would cost about $500 to drive the bus to ames and back.

Do you have a place to park or are you winging it like the rest of us?

Apparently the lots open at 6 PM and close at 10 PM if you get there later than that you will have to wait till 7 AM for them to open again.
So far the plans are Dan leaving at 3pm and AdamB leaving at 6pm from Des Moines/Ames
I don't know when I am leaving yet, I am hoping to drive with another bus if I am ready in time.
Parking information can be viewed here:

I snuck into A2 two years ago.

We're winging it for parking. Taking about 30 people with, so heading over Fri night was not an option.

I think lots J and S are the most desirable. If those are full go to lot K I think has plenty of room and does not fill up.

As Steve said we, we have about ten of us going over Friday night, with the rest of the crew coming over on Saturday. The Iowa parking website says that most of the lots open at 7am on Saturday BUT I have heard from a few sources including channel 13 that general lots will be open at 6pm Friday, closing at Midnight and REOPENING at 7am. I cannot guarantee that this is true, but that is what we are banking on. If the game is as well attended as it usually is many lots will probably be pretty full by 7am. We are heading to the S lot on the corner of Myrtle and Riverside at 6pm Friday. I don't know why, but that is where our driver wants to be, he says it is usually pretty fun, plus it is closer to the downtown bars. If anyone else wants in there I will try to reserve a couple spots (doubt they will let me but a cold beer is sometimes more useful than a crisp Benjamin).
Steve if you are still heading over Friday night call me after six sometime and I will have some more parking information.

Dan so far we have a crew of 10 and possibly 12 to 13 going. I am planning on picking people up at three and then heading out so I am probably going to be a half an hour or so behind you. I will call you when I get close to IC.

Well that was a good time. I ended up taking a crew of 16 people there! We were really crammed in there. I was in the Finkbine commuter lot which was a lot of fun there was probably 100 buses and rvs in that lot and since the game was not on directtv and I have DishNetwork I was the only person around to get the game and ended up stringing cords to all the local buses and then everyone crowded around us.

For future reference, lot S is not a good lot for oversized vehicles. Although we got there early (6:15pm the day the before) and had our choice of spots, there were only a few spots capable of holding a large bus and half those spots were already taken by cars. So after two hours of negotiations with all levels of parking patrol personnel, the local sheriffs, and campus security we were finally allowed to stay in the SIX parking spots it took to accommodate us plus one for our support truck that arrived late with reinforcements. It was definitely not the most cost effective way of parking but at that point in the evening we decided we did not have much of a choice. It sounds like from Steve that the Finkbine lot was a lot more accommodating of buses and I am sure a lot more cost effective. That is not to say we did not have a good time, but next time we make it over that direction we will definitely head to the Finkbine lots.
PS- The game was on DirecTV, that is what we watched it on, but not until halfway through the first quarter. There were a lot of pissed off tailgaters before DirecTV got their act together and switched over.

Sorry about the loss guys. It was a great game to watch.
I just looked and A&M doesn't play ISU this year. Anyone know about the next couple of years? I would like to go up and see some of the rigs you guys have. It seems like Skoolie Tailgating Mecca up there.
Jimmy, what kind of setup do you guys have in Austin?

Yep. I was there. I was across the street sitting on some newspaper stands when things started to get really crazy. A couple of near misses for the crowd. One guy we know tried to bribe a Austin Popo so that they could do a burnout on a bike right in front of him. The cop was very professional about the turn down. Good times.
(sorry about the thread hijaking)
