I think the web site gagged
FISH... refers to a posting somewhere in the forum where somebody posted pix of a huge fish they had caught.
I was browsing this discussion and these pictures just popped up like they were part of this thread. It was wierd.

Maybe we can all meet up at an amuzement park?
We talked last year about going to Cedar Point in Ohio but it never really worked out.
I would be game for a trip like that.

OK, I'm back! Sorry to be absent as I know some of you've been wondering what's going on with the Gathering plans. I've been out on the land trying to get power out there and water. My biggest hurdle has been dealing with the State of Missouri (MoDOT) to allow me to improve the entrance to the lower field which is where I wanted to hold the Gathering. This field is about 17 acres and is nice and flat. It is fairly private with trees all around with a stone bluff on one side and a year round creek on the other. In order for me to put in a new double wide (skoolie sized) entrance, the State wanted me to cut down a bunch of trees along the fence line to improve visibility for people pulling out onto the road. Yeow! If anything, I want to plant MORE trees along the fence line! So then the State says I can widen the existing entrance as it "grandfathers" in and the same requirements do not apply. The problem with widening the existing entrance is that it would require a lot of excavation and fill which I can't afford right now. I actually CAN make it through that gate with my 40 foot skoolie but I've been driving private skoolies for years. No offense to anyone but I get nervous when I read posts from people asking, "How do you drive these things?!?". Actually, the one time I went through that gate I think it was luck as much as anything. There is a knarly approach where you have cut a sharp right turn while trying not to scrape the fence with the left front fender as it comes around while you are trying to miss the gate post on the right. The whole deal is squirrely at best and even I don't want to go through again until the entrance is improved. So where does that all leave me?
Embarrassed as hell!
There is no better way to blow your credibility than by getting everyone all fired up and then not delivering. Time just got away from me as everything seems to take a lot longer and cost a lot more than it should. Just getting power out there turned into this ordeal and the water probably will not be ready for six weeks yet. Regardless, I will be out there the last weekend of September. I will be in the upper field which is, unfortunately right next to Highway "H" and is not private so there are some "activities" that would have to be kept discrete upon the arrival of curious locals. Honestly, this area is SO backward and conservative some of these people still communicate in grunts and are even spooked by electricity! There will be power (don't be afraid!) by then and some kind folks will be joining me there. There IS a nice new double wide entrance (skoolie approved) there and room for five of six skoolies besides mine. There is a restaurant up the hill (not open on Saturday for some unknown reason) with gas but no diesel. So we could have a more modest event to start and a full-blown Gathering next summer. By then I should have everything done down in the lower field including comfortable toilets. Let me know if anyone is still interested in the last weekend this month and I'll have Roger (my farmer neighbor) brush hog so it will be nice. I'll understand if folks want to wait till things are more improved. I guess I just tried to do too much in too short a time.
Thanks,
Ken

Ken, your hospitality is greatly appreciated, unfortunately I must wait for the next gathering as I have family coming in for my twin sons second birthday (9-27).

How many people are going to be there now that there is an actual date set? I may not be able to make it until Saturday.

Alas...I will not be able to make it. School and finances (college gets more spendy every year) just won't allow it. Too bad too...I would have enjoyed spending my 22nd birthday surrounded by some buses. Perhaps next year.
Just out of curiousity....was Sept. 29-Nov. 1 a window or are you planning a month long get together?
