Using Skoolie as a Moving Van. Insane?

Hello Skoolie fam.

We bought our bus a few months back with every intention to build it out but life had other plans and now we find ourselves needing to use our empty bus as a moving truck for a move from Austin to Vermont.

I already have an inspection planned and will be adding some runners to the sides for tying our belongings down.

We are treating the move as a slow road trip with lots of stops. Spreading it all out over the course of about 12 days. We have 3 young kids and a cat. I’ll be driving the bus and they’ll be following me in our odyssey.

Any tips or knowledge are greatly appreciated.

Make sure for safety's sake that if you stop real fast your stuff doesn't slide foward and kill you. I moved to NM from CA 25 years ago in a retired school bus and it worked. Watch the state port of entries. AZ was cool with it and NM was closed both times.

I moved a lot of stuff with my shorty, especially pre-conversion where it was a moving van and dump hauler. Secure your load!

the worst part would be having to leave warm sunny austin for cold crappy vermont..



the bus will do fine.. tie things down nicely.. balance the weght throughout the buss with no big heavy stuff behind the axles

They get poor mpg, but if its a rust-free bus, it will be easy to sell in Vermont.

this is an old thread so im guessinfg that trip has loing been completed.. several here have done it.. i have done it.. the biggest issue is that the door areas arent condusive to getting big furniture in and out like a box truck has...



otherwise the suspension and drivetrain on a bus is pretty much like a rented box truck
