Re: 1969 international loadstar 1600 superior coach
Very nice! On the top speed issue, I feel your pain. Most likely it is geared too low. I have a 67 ford that is only good for 50 without winding her up. The low side of the 2 speed rear end is in the 8's numerically, the high side is in the 6's. I checked on gear sets but none are available. Look for a tag on your diff cover and call some place like Inland truck to check on gears. A complete salvage axle may be a cheaper way to go, but I'm not that interested.
To find out your gear ratio, jack up the rear so the tires are off the ground. Turn the wheel one time and count how many times the drive shaft turns.

Regarding speed...you might also check to see if it has a governor...most skoolies do by state law. Some are mechanical (easy to work on) while others are electronic/computer (take it to a pro). Worth checking into either way.

Re: 1969 international loadstar 1600 superior coach
Not at all familiar with IH's or their engines, but any decent mechanic should be able to tell if there is a governor in place or not, as well as adjust as needed. And great progress! I hoping my little '46 will arrive within the next week or so and the new engine/tranny right behind it. Can't wait to get started myself.

Nice work on the painting! Feels good to get that done, doesn't it? So I'm curious if that loudspeaker actually works. Do you use it to yell at idiot drivers on the road? "Hey you! Yeah you in the red convertible! WTF is wrong with you?! Get off your cell phone and pay attention to the road!"
