The Ac compressor is engine driven--so no-you cant just run it off a generator.

Re: 1994 Ford E-350 Shuttle Bus Conversion
he ripped his unit out.
idle usage i dunno offhand but cant be better then using a genset! My bus is a diesel and i have a high idle switch on mine. I assume it was for when parked for the AC and engine lubrication.

Re: 1994 Ford E-350 Shuttle Bus Conversion
Yup-I removed the rear AC unit. I wanted walk thru front to back-and it hung down to eye level.
I'm in the process of trying to find the parts to make the front AC working-the way mine worked (and I'm betting yours also) is when they put the box on the partial chassis from Ford, the chucked the AC hoses + plumbed the rear AC in series with the front one. MIne has a sticker on the dash that says "rear AC must be on for the front to work." And of the 3 stock hoses, 2 are 95-96 only-and no long availible from Ford. I'm gonna make my own.
If I can find a roof top unit cheap, I'd put it on. And at the races I do, we're gone most of the day-so we aren't sitting in a hot van. It would be nice-but we've been ok so far.
My van weighs 0ver 10k-and pulling a 2000 trailer in the hills, i get near 10mpg.

Re: 1994 Ford E-350 Shuttle Bus Conversion
I have a sticker on mine that says rear AC must be on if you use the dash air or blow off could occur. so I assume the system has an additional pump somewhere or it would just freeze up back there.
I should hunt a mini bus forum... maybe they have some mechanical answers.

Re: 1994 Ford E-350 Shuttle Bus Conversion
If you have 4:10 gears (which would be my bet) 10mpg is all you're gonna get. (you got the same frontal area as mine)--MAYBE a tiny bit more being single rear wheel + being lighter.
My fiberglass rear is Champion-and there is all kinds if metal frame work built in. i've been on the roof and it doesn't buckle at all. Plenty sturdy-a roof top AC would be fine.

Re: 1994 Ford E-350 Shuttle Bus Conversion
i found in my bus that the lines come up in the area behind the driver where it goes from van to bus body and goes up along the roof to the AC in the back. My floor heaters go straight down and through the floor.

Re: 1994 Ford E-350 Shuttle Bus Conversion
There may be a tag under the hood listing what package came with the van (engine-trans rear-coolers etc.) If not there is a little metal tag on the cover of the rear end.
Heres a good piece of advice:while everything is easily accessible, give a real good check of the fuel lines-brake lines + pop open your fuel tank to check the mesh filter in there. I went nuts trying to solve a no run issue-dropped the tank TWICE-it turned out to be a torn fuel line where it goes over the rear.

Re: 1994 Ford E-350 Shuttle Bus Conversion
wow that is some carnage!! While the floor is out to you could power wash the inside and frame and it would just run out the bottom lol
Also run your vin. i think that should tell you what options it had

Re: 1994 Ford E-350 Shuttle Bus Conversion
I dont think its a matter of its a powerstroke or not-i think its the fact you are trying to push something with the frontal area of a small house thru the air. But if you have flatter towing than I do, you might make out better. I plan on chipping mine to (hopefully) get another MPG or two out of it.

Re: 1994 Ford E-350 Shuttle Bus Conversion
I recommend that when you put in the new floor, you make an access hatch for your fuel tank level sender/supply/return hose connections. That way if you have any problems like an in-tank fuel pump going bad or something like that you won't have to drop the tank to deal with it.

Is your front door big enough to get everything in/out? Can you get the seating, appliances, etc in or out thru the front door as that appears to be the opening you will have left? If not, you may want to rethink sealing up the rear door. Why don't you just replace the weatherstripping?
