Currently looking at a 2002 Ford F-450 22 Foot Transit Bus, Eldorado Cabin. 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel engine and automatic transmission. Runs well (supposedly), has hydraulic breaks. Miles on it 369,000.
They're looking for $5,500. He actually said he'd make a deal with me to bring it down to $4,500.
What do you all think? Is this a good deal? Is this asking too much for it? Thanks.
I'm a fan of the 7.3L Powerstroke and the Eldorado bus body but the mileage is getting up there. There may be a trans rebuild or some expensive engine repairs coming up for this bus. I'd definitely want to look it over really well or have a mechanic give it a once over before buying.
At any rate, assume there will be some expensive repairs to be made after purchase.
I agree. This is a lot of miles. Can you find out if the trans or engine has been rebuilt? You also have to factor in that many miles on the entire bus meaning all other moving parts, etc. Ball joints, tie rods, rear end, front end.. there is a lot of other wear parts. I'm sure some have been replaced by now, but I'd ask for maintenance records (if available) and go from there.
