2005 Ford 5 Window 6.0 Diesel

Owned the bus since 2016 and used to tow a camper, sold the camper and redoing the interior. This is where I’m at this far. Realized the spray foam wasn’t enough to keep cool on a hot summer day. Going with the original roof unit and adding a 1 ton mini split in the rear. Plan on adding a twin XL bed on rear passenger and a slide out couch on rear driver. Decided against any bathroom but installing a sink with 30-40 gallon fresh tank.

The pics towards the end were all Older pics from before I did a full engine rebuild that consisted of bigger turbo, bigger injectors, Oringed heads, studs, arp everything on the block, bored .30 over, O-dawgs intake, all 6.0 common issues solved in one summer. So before anyone hates on the 6.0 ALL problems have been resolved and I’d drive it cross country tomorrow.

On the paint I’m planning on going either white or black or primer gray / black

ive had good luck so far with my 6.0 powerstroke.
i wish i could bullet proof it though.
ive done a few things to feel comfortable traveling with it.
with the block warmer it fires right up in 20 degrees!

Cool rig, good to see the rebuild, not too many do that around here. I presume with your upgrades that you did, but did you install a tuner and eliminate egr? I'd highly consider doing so if you didn't.

IMO if staying cool in the summer is your goal, then white or cool colors are your only paint options. Painting a bus black and expecting it to be cool inside is like using a screen door as a boat and expecting to stay dry. That's why most of your high end coolers are always white fwiw.

Oh, and your stock windows are likely a large source of heat transfer too. Either replace with double pane units, eliminate the windows altogether, or at the minimum make a curtain of some sort to seal them off. If you do none of that, then you should at least apply a window tint of some sort so that radiant energy is blocked.

if wanting to stay cool.. odnt delete the dash air.. or if you did, put it back.. minisplit is a great solution for staying cool while parked but you need the dash air for the road..



id sooner drive a bulletproofed 6.0 across the country than I would a brand new 6.7

good tips from Booyah & Cadillackid!
ceramic tint is pricey but is the way to go!
it cuts 50% of solar heat & 99% UV rays.
i paid $700 to do my bus.
i run 15% ceramic tint on everything except the front.
i run 50% tint on the windshield.
yes on the front windshield LOL!

advantages to tint windshields:
1) provides shade.
2) helps protect dashboard from becoming brittle & fade.
3) AC works easier.
4) keeps heat & UV rays off your arms.
5) suppresses glare from oncoming traffic at night.
6) looks awesome!

disadvantages to tint windshields:
1) its a little darker to see at night. 35% is OK if your in the city with streetlights. but 50% with really good headlights is a good happy medium for rural driving.
2) dont wash the window with cold water on very hot days. they say it may crack the window. i have had 7 tinted front windows on personal & work vehicles. i have never cracked a windshield from water or received a ticket violation thus far.

I absolutely will never tint or recomend anyone tint a windshield unless that vehicle is never driven at night in rain in areas where there are bicycles and pedestrians..


even with 50% no way you can see a pedestrian dressed in black (and they do) in the rain with no streetlights...

Yes I repaired the egr and fixed all common 6.0 issues. I did leave the front air unit and plan to add a mini split in the rear also.

What a beautiful build! Nice clean design! I like all the wood and the drawers under the bed.

Also really really like the out side utility box.
I think i am going to do that since there is room to do so. But i am trying to keep my bus light for various reasons. I am a minimalist. I am at 8700 pds fully packed with full tank. that will get my snow chains & tool box out from under my bed LOL
