Big slowdown here --- It's that time of year. Between an upcoming sculpting class I'm teaching in beautiful Bell Buckle, Tennessee and my studios biggest event of the year (ArtCrawl Houston)...I am losing out on a lot of bus time. But, here's what little has been done in the wee hours.
Got a coat of paint onto the newly modified wheel well. Actually, I got it reinstalled but no pix at the moment. Be patient Jack.
Then there was this tricky little devil. I had to re-route the return oil line coming off my turbo due to interference being called. Between the wacky new (Jeep) motor mounts and a a re-positioned oil filter port, my best bet was to just route it directly into the oil pan. Had to have a port/bung machined that I will weld into the pan. It is not there yet due to time constraints, but the rest of the piping is in place and secured. As soon as I get a clear day I will drop the pan and fit the new bung. Just one little thing to get out of the way.
Till next time...

Yea...I was sucked in by her looks too. Always had a weakness for those hot dames from the '40's.

Hey Tango. I am a very patient man but waiting for you to post pics has just about made me reach my limit. I know I speak for all of us when I say if there ain't pictures, it didn't happen!
Now that I have that off my chest------ What material is your flex tube made of and how are you going to support it. These rattly a$$ed little 4 bangers shake like the devil. It took me two tries to come up with a shake proof mount for my air cleaner atop the engine. I know that the lateral position of your return line won't shake as much as my air cleaner on the top of the motor but if it were to harden and break it would be a catastrophe. I know I'm preaching to the choir what with all your experience with metals in your real work but i'm just a busy body so I'll continue to meddle. Keep up the good work and remember that as we get older we don't need as much sleep. Jack

Well Howdy Jack --- Hope you are feelin' fit and ready to shout out drill orders bud.
The tube is a Cummins part made of stainless and quite rigid. In fact I had fits getting it to follow my fantasy route around everything. I am, however, going to add a chunk of split hose along the only section that might ever come in contact with anything (the motor mount)...just in case. Talked with another chap who has an almost identical arrangement and after driving his for several months, he said he saw no movement at all since the whole motor moves as a unit.
And the pix will be few and far between for the next month or so. Gotta go earn some more part money...and running guns into Guatemala isn't as easy as it used to be.

Sounds like you need to expand your horizons then! Try Colombia. I hear the FARC are looking for a new supplier.........

Good news. Just got word my remaining three windows will be here on Monday!
Bad news. I won't be able to do anything with them for about two weeks! Gotta take some time to earn a few bucks to keep this gal happy and in new parts. Like most...she is a pretty high maintenance lady.

Roger the expensive upkeep. Women & buses are both high-dollar investments.
As to which makes the most sense to take on...well...
I'm not even going there. And I'm a bachelor!

Had a customer who restored a 1927 Cadillac Touring Car that was purchased for
hauling people around Yellowstone in the day, still had the original title with it.

I have to wonder who the lucky suckers are that maintain all those old Whites for the Park. Something tells me they must have a lot of fabricating/machining skills. Can't recall seeing any parts listed for one of them on Ebay lately.

I was the only one the owner would have drive him around. If I remember, the yellow one was a '28 and mine was a '29??

Oh dude, it was so sweet to drive. So much different than my '86 Soob. LOL!
He's long since gone. I've been gone from there for 10 yrs. I've always wondered what became of those. You didnt think I meant "my" family...did you? HA!

I'm baaacck! --- Been quite a while but I finally had the chance to visit my girl and get back to work on her. Between teaching a sculpture class in Tennessee and my studios biggest annual art event I hadn't even seen her in well over a month. And with 417 different fixes in various stages of completion...it's tough just trying to remember where the heck I left off on most of them. I had really hoped to come home and find all the sheetmetal work that I dropped off three months ago ready to pick up but...noooo. And without a few of those pieces I can't go any farther on several critical fronts. All I can get accomplished till then are some minor projects.
Like the spare tire carrier for example...
the spare will ride below the new rear deck and swing down on a hinged carrier.
Had to weld up a rig to fit my jack just to hold that 140 pound sucker in place so I could get a few measurements. Will likely add a cable winch to crank it up & down.
Not much to see from above but had to post a pic of something just to keep Ol' Trunt happy.
Also have my tranny dipstick installed now.
If your bus came with one, you probably just shrugged and thought.."so?..."
But this sucker had to be fabricated and took the lame wits...er, excuse me..."professionals" about eight weeks and two tries to get right. And actually, it's still not right. I ordered it with a "T" handle but after all their other screw-ups I decided to live with the round version.
Anyhow...good to be back and looking forward to making a little progress.
ONWARD!
