Mo Metal --- Installed the water catcher/drain thing today. Tricky. Just hope I can still get the window to go up & down now.
Pretty snug fit. Just a few pop rivets holding the two pieces in place along with a big glob of seam sealer underneath. The drain drops down thru the floor.
And...
...trying out a seal on the doghouse. This is an oven door seal. Whatever I wind up with needs to handle the heat. Would love to find some hi-temp silicone but having little luck so far.

It's out there, I have a part tube in my tool box at work....used it on some custom exhaust I put on the start-alls in the service trucks. It's a reddish/orange colour.

Thanks all, but not looking for "sealant"...that I can find. Need something like a molded silicone foam seal that will allow the doghouse to come & go as needed, but keep the heat & stink out of the cabin. Waiting on a reply from a couple of companies that supposedly make that kind of stuff.

Door gasket for a food warming cabinet should work. They heat up to 185°f and are usually silicone.

Some interesting ideas...thanks all. But I don't think most of those materials are thick enough to have the compressability I need. Need something about 1/4" thick that will compress down to about 1/8". Found one outfit named ASI that makes what looks perfect but have not heard back from them yet.
Silicone Sponge Gaskets - Rubber Gaskets
Still open to any ideas.

In The Doghouse Again --- Well, actually, ON the Doghouse again.
Had to do some prep work before I could begin to mount the doghouse. There are two main components I had to build (after cutting out the floor and dash/firewall). One is the seal/base I made way back when.
The base with a sealing lip mounts pretty much permanently. 30 flange bolts & nuts attach it to the floor & firewall with a thick bead of seam sealer to try and make it air tight at that level.
I will be wearing the black stains from the urethane sealer for the next couple of weeks. Tried using gloves but the 1/4" nuts did not want to cooperate. And yes...getting all those holes lined up and drilled just so was a real...
Here is another view...
The red knob is the push/pull - on/off rod I replaced the finicky fuel solenoid with. One less electronic thing to go wonky.
Still working on finding better sealing material for the box portion and also have to mount some stout "hood latches" to keep it secure when going over jumps so there will be more to this story.
ONWARD!

More Doghouse --- Spent the day attaching the hold down straps and such. Don't want this puppy flying about or rattling.
Added a lift handle. Will likely add one more.
Went with old school rubber bungee style hood hold downs.
Should keep things in place on any road.
ONWARD!

Why not rob the lip seal off a van engine cover? They use a fairly heavy yet soft rubber seal that will hold up to heat just fine and have the compression properties you are looking for as its already designed to do what you are trying to do.

Actually I did some looking around at off the shelf seals but most are pre-formed to fit a different shape. Also discovered most do not have much in the way of heat rating and my arrangement puts part of he seal an inch or two from the turbo downpipe which gets reeeaaaly warm.
But thanks for the suggestion.
Just got an email that some hi-tech, high heat silicone seal samples are on their way!
