My very sincere thanks to everyone here for all the support, kind words, encouragement and friendship. So much to be thankful for from so many. Most I have never even met. Bless you all.

What a day today turned out to be.

"It was the best of times. It was the worst of times."

One member I have met (and the rest of you should get to know) is Guido. Quiet guy, Vet, pilot, very savvy builder. He has stopped by several times to lend a hand and I had asked him if he could drop by next time in town to help flip the roof rack over. No way I could do it by myself and my regular helpers were all booked for a week or so. He came through once again and I met him at my shop/warehouse today. But when we walked back to where the doorway is...it was standing open. Someone had pried the steel door & frame apart enough to get around the 1" deadbolt. My heart stopped.

Virtually all my hand tools are gone. Three different drill drivers...four grinders...a small stationery disk sander...my Sawzall...all my wrenches (maybe five sets)...all my impact tools...big Milwaukee corded drill (one of the old/good ones)...and Lord knows what all else.

And the list goes on. So much for the "Worst of times'.

The "Best of times" is all thanks to Guido. Bless his heart, I had promised him we'd be done with the rack in five minutes. We were. But he stuck around and basically rebuilt the lock so I could at least shut and lock the door...then we went to HD and got another deadbolt to add which he also installed. I say "he" instead of "we" because about all I could do was watch. Really felt rough today with barely the energy to hand him a screwdriver now and again.

It is folks like Guido that take the edge off an otherwise, and often unkind world. Good to know there are people like him still out there.

We barely wrapped up in time for him to race to the airport and take care of some of his own work.

Yeah...quite a day.

Thank you Guido.

Tango so sorry to hear about your health issues and, to top it all off, someone helping themselves to your tools.

Praying for you and a special thanks to Guido.

Don, all I can say is, under the circumstances, I'm glad I was there to lend a hand. Let me know if you need more help around the shop.

Out-STANDING advice!

Very happy that you aren't one of the members of the following demographic, and that you were there, ready and willing, to help a brother out!

My findings, over a multi-decade, ersatzly apocryphal, semi-scientific study has proven, beyond any demonstable doubt, that there is a ( thankfully small ) discrete proportion of humanity that are irredeemably inflamed rectums.

This percentage of people is constantly consistent: crossing the boundaries of all ages, genders, borders, cultures, social strata, and races.

Ergo, while this prurient percentage remains the same in any given demographic, the probability of finding oneself forced into having interactions with one of these aforementioned inconsiderate ring-muscles is considerably enhanced in an urban environment.

This is unsurprising, as one is fishing in a much larger pond. Sadly, the likelihood of hooking one from the shallow end of the gene pool seems incontrovertibly inevitable.

So sorry to learn of your loss. We can only hope the shmeg-heads hurt themselves using their ill-gotten booty...

Tears in my eyes

Don, I can’t tell you how much I hurt for you. Haven’t been on the forum in awhile. I have NO words !! Do me a favor, call this guy. Dr. Aaron Chapa in League City. (281) 554-8600. He does alternative medicine, and I have seen some tremendous things come out of his practice. He does have a protocol for cancer. My prayers are with you buddy !!!

Tango.
I know you didn't think would ever have to put a price on your build and I am sorry you are even having to contemplate the idea of selling it?
But I have to ask because I would hate to see it parted out.
We all know what you have equipment wise in it and what you have done to it.
I know the labor involved in my build will never be recovered if I decided to sell mine.
Please post an expected price?
When you have time a list of things that you want to complete.
A list of things that you need help completing?
Is it/has it ran?
What stage is it at?
Already to much work to be parted out and would hate to see it happen but could probably make more money parting it .
THE VA aint the best doctors ? Been there done that???
There was a previous post on here that gave a number for a different doctor and I believe you need to get away from the VA for this type of treatment.
They had my DAD in TEXAS fighting diabetes and they never could get the mess right for over 10-years and I talked him into getting a DOC. out of the VA and long story short he never had Diabetes he had a brain tumor and once removed he was better but his body was addicted to the diabetes meds.?
Get a second opinion outside of the VA.
They are the VETERANS AUTHORITY but how can they provide care to the VETERANS if they have problems regulating thereselves?
KEEP ON KEEPIN ON TANGO THE FIGHT ISNT OVER YET! OOHRAH.
Need your thoughts on a price you have for your build?
TO much artistry in it to part it out!

Howdy All --- Been a while, my apologies. Last few weeks have been rough.

Once again, thank you all for your kind words & support. I do appreciate all of it.

As for putting a value on my bus...you are correct...it had not crossed my mind until the cancer thing came along. Still hard to do but I will try by beginning with a few facts.

The engine is a mid '90's, 130 HP Cummins 4BTAA factory recon that has since been gone through by Diesel Specialists here in Houston. They believe the current tune should produce about 175 to 180 HP. New exhaust manifold. New (rebuilt) Holset HX30W turbo. New injectors. All cylinders 100% on factory pressure specs. Total into the engine about $8000.00. Engine has not been started since the rebuild about five years ago. Always stored indoors.

Chassis & Running gear are in excellent shape. The transmission is a 5th generation Allison 2200MH, 6 speed, dual OD with a driveline brake mounted. This was about $10 grand, straight from the Allison factory by the time the shifter was installed. Driveshaft is new, balanced two piece unit with a new central bearing. Rear axle is a 1998 Chevy 3500 4x2 Dana 80 HD Duallie w/wide track. Brand new 4.30 gearing by Houston Drive Train, Houston TX. Brakes are disk all around. The front are massive 5606 International Medium-Heavy Duty Truck rotors with big Ford F-350 calipers and the rear are the factory Chevy disks that came with the Dana axle. They are power assist with a hydroboost system that also handles the power steering. The steering wheel & gearbox are from a 1993 Isuzu NPR commercial, medium duty truck. All of the leaf springs are new and from Eaton Detroit. The rear set has had the load reduced by 50% and the front has an extra 350#'s capacity added to compensate for the weight of the diesel engine vs the original 6 cyl. gas motor.
Rims are from 1998 Chevy 3500 HD 19.5 x 6 w/10 lug on 7 1/4" circle pattern...Tires are 8R19.5 Bridgestone R187 Steel belted radials w/TR501 short brass stems
(all balanced with internal tire balancing compound). Shocks...Front-Rancho RS5000 Front Shock (SPRS50007204WDNLFT)
Rear-Monroe Gas Magums #34910...NAPA # 76910

The 1946 Wayne body has all new outer side panels fabricated and ready to install. New inner panels are in place. Floor & walls have 1/2" marine ply installed. All the Chevrolet parts (cowl forward) are in excellent condition. NOTE: the grill components (originally painted) have been chromed to 95 point show quality by the company that does most of Jay Leno's chrome work. The driver side lower panel has a small cut out for which there is a custom fabbed replacement panel ready to weld in. I have four, double pane, custom RV slider windows with screens ready to fit. The other windows have been deleted with 14 ga. steel custom made panels. I also have a custom made steel entry door that has a large custom RV window plus a smaller "curb viewer" down low. Both are ready to install. I also have an RV dual deadbolt door lock and large (500# ea.) chrome hinges for the door. The rear roof has an "Art Deco" A/C box built into it for which I have a new (unused) 8000 btu window unit that will be included. The roof deck frame is complete but not yet installed. It has been painted but needs the marine ply decking cut to fit, installed and painted. It also has the hinge components for folding side railings in place. All of the fixed glass (windshield, side & rear units) have new glass & gaskets. NOTE: driver window rolls up & down and is also new. Driver seat is from a 2002 Toyota Camry (all mechanical) and has been modified to fully rotate and slide side to side as well as front to rear.

Other stuff includes a brand new (never used) Natures Head toilet. I also have a 120v/12v Whynter dual zone, 62 qt. refrigerator/freezer (still in the box).
There is a Manchester 6.9 Gal./29# (Serial# 1710367 Cat. 6813) propane tank installed on a rear frame rail. I also have a folding rear deck that is ready to mount. It extends 24" when "up" but folds down to 48" x full width. It only needs mounting & marine plywood decking.

There are many other small items and accessories. Too many for my chemo addled brain to recall at the moment.

As for a price...I feel pretty confident I can part out just the engine & trans for close to $15 K. They are both high demand items. If I could get that for the complete bus and all spare parts...I would do it. I know that no one gets out what they put into these rigs but all I am hoping to do is cover the engine & tranny while keeping the rest of the rig together.

Let me know your honest thoughts.

I would hate to see you part it out when you're willing to let it go for so little. I thought it was out of my budget at the engine and trans cost. I think you probably have more value in the rest of the bus. I hope someone keeps it together and continues your dream for it.

Thanks. I am hoping it stays together then gets finished to whatever specs a serious builder wants to apply. Worst case is indeed parting it out, but that may be the only way I can leave a little something for my grand kids. Had hoped to hand the whole thing off to them "one day". But it looks like "one day" is going to get here before I'm ready.

If only I could, I surely would! She's a beaut, and deserves to find a good home to complete her metamorphosis. Bon chance!

Seeing as everybody here is presumably too broke to give your gorgeous build the home it deserves, can we maybe put together a zazzy flyer for it and collaboratively wallpaper the inter webs with it?
Among us, I bet we could advertise Tango's build in enough places that any Google search for "skoolie for sale" will bring it up.

What do you think?

I wish there were a way to pool our resources together and finish this bus.
I could come up with a couple grand.

I think that is a great idea but should be discussed with Don. I'm sure he is not feeling up to answering inquiries too often. He will need assistance in that area for one instance and then there is the showing of the goods.
Those are two things that come to my mind anyway about your idea.

Maybe a crowd funding could be setup also. Hope that is the right term.
Likely have to be someone in Houston for both this and the above suggestion.

Somebody with the same general passion and know how would suit this bus build. Hope we can help you Tango.
