I've seen a few conventional 4x4 but that is the first FE. Now a 4x4 RE would be somerhing.

Yeah first FE 4x4 bus I've ever seen. It was retired from the Eagle River AK school district, no A/C for some reason
I'm thinking I might zip up there this weekend and look at it.

Makes no sense, what is different if on a shorter wheel base? What is causing the damage to the tires?
Agreed.

Course other than maybe for snow, putting 4x4 on a bus that size would be pretty useless anyway. Anywhere you'd actually need 4x4 would crush you in break-over and/or departure angle anyway.

You would think being a 4x4 bus that the pics would show some of the front drive train.

The front wheels of a car or truck travel further then the rear and faster when cornering....ergo when they are connected with a transfer case with out differential action, something has to give...either the tires scrub or the transfer case lunches. On an exteme wheelbase such as a schoolbus, it would be magnified.
