Breadbox Style Shorty

Hi All,
I'm looking into possibly buying a 1996 Bluebird shorty. The pictures and description call it "breadbox" style. It's a quirky look but I like it. Anyway, they look like they might not be as wide as most buses. Does anyone know anything about them? Here's a link to one: Public Surplus: Auction #1418382
Any info you have about it would be great.
Thanks!
-Polly

Don't see any specifications as to motor size or transmission.
Is it gas or diesel. If its diesel is it the dreaded 6.5L GM engine
and what is the Gross Vehicle weight so you know how much
you can add and still be safe. Do you have anyone who can
check it out for you before you spend the money.

Mine is the "breadbox" style. Not sure if it's the exact same measurements, but I don't have what I've read is the typical 8 feet across. Mine is 6"9.5'.

I got one...not bad so far

I bought a 1990 version of this bus to convert to a tiny home. I'm in the beginning phase so I can't really say much. I can say that if you are intending on doing a lot of OTR travel with your bus, I would NOT recommend this style. It doesn't like the highway or speeds over 55 mph (at least mine doesn't). Other than that, I think it's a fun bus to convert. I always thought they looked quirky and lacked aesthetics but the style is starting to grow on me.

I love my 86 mini bird, even with all its quirks like top speed of 55 mph, it's hatred of speed bumps, it's 9 mpg underpowered gas engine.

I do wish it was 6 feet longer....time to think about a removable deck that converts to a toilet/shower enclosure for dry camping.

Edit to my previous post: the underpowered gas engine is NOT stock, it was replaced by the previous owner. I don't know the specs of the previous engine, but I do know that it was diesel.

OP, did you end up buying this bus? It's a cutie!
