Cubic ft. Space in a short bus.

I am considering moving to Hawaii and it looks like it might be cheaper to buy a short bus, load it with our things and ship that than to have it put on a cargo container to ship it. How big is the interior of a normal short bus? Height, length, width of interior behind the driver's seat? Any help would be great.

Mine's the same as SDwarf's rig. That's space behind the driver's seat. If you load it to windshield you'd get even more space. Gotta leave enough room for the driver of course.

Thank you muchly, that means I would have about 832 cubic ft to work with. Now to see what it would cost to ship and start looking for a bus...

Re: Cubic ft. Space in a short bus.

There is a company called pasha Hawaii. They have their own ship and work out of San Diego Calif and I think a port in LA.
Just remember to see if your insurance company operates in Hawaii and what your premiums will be?
The vehicle registration is ALLOT.
Mine was $700.00 per year for the 25 passenger bus I have and after the Gov. doubled the weight tax expect the registration to be way over 1100.00 next year.
I found a nice MC8 here and at 1800.00 sale price was great; until I looked into the insurance and registration for the "bus".
Insurance would have been around $3,000.00 per year if I could get it and registration on a 30,000 lb. bus was around again $3,000.00 per year before the weight tax increase.
So spending 7,000.00 to 8,000.00 just to drive it home killed the deal.

I don't intend to drive it other than to get from port to parked. I'll contact the local police ahead of time and see if something can be arranged. If I have to have it towed from the port to whatever property we wind up with it is still looking cheaper than the shipping service cost for our things by normal methods.

I would then tow the bus.
If you do notify the police you run a high risk of getting tickets ( they would be on the look out for the bus ) if they don't impound the bus.
Having no insurance can run you a $2,000.00 fine by itself and the insurance company will jack up the premiums from that also.
