Work continues
Okay, it is with much sadness that I have decided to top screw the floorboards. I have 5/8 marine ply glued with Pl to a repaired and seam sealed 16ga floor and screwed down to the frame work, then my Peruvian teak which is secured with saschco lexel then screwed through the tongues and through the top. The reason I went this way is because I was drinking beers with a wooden boat buddy who told me “Nah buddy screw those down, its gonna be a 4.0 earthquake in here every minute you are on the road”. Now I have to collect all my sanding dust to mix with titebond to make filler. I don't think it will look too bad. either way the floor is solid as a rock! It will get sanded, filled, then finished with a whole gallon of McKlosky’s Man o’ War oil based formula. Fans and respirators are on deck. Most of the pics are at night because that is when I get done.

Wow that does look great! And I think the filled screw holes add character!

FIRST LAYER OF VARNISH!! the battened down the hatches to keep dust away any sparks in there and it would be a bomb. Will wait overnight for 2nd coat. It is good to be making progress on the bus again.

Wow, better than my house ! Love spar varnish, has so much more "depth" than poly, but also more flexible with floor movement.

Agreed totally. I'm not in the "no visible fasteners" camp - I think they're inevitable in a skoolie and enhance the overall look.

That is beautiful! As a fan of beautiful wooden boats (you should see my collection of Ferenc Maté books so I can drool and dream) I really admire this work.

Cut my teeth on a Herreshoff ketch, that is exactly the style I am going for. These next weeks will be boring as it will just be adding layers of varnish but stay tuned for more fancy woodwork and bad a$$ recycled old wood.

Moving forward this week
Well it is my older daughter’s second birthday and we finally got our folding seat from the upholstery shop. It is a queen size bed. We went with the heavy duty vinyl because our children destroy everything and it is easy to clean. The green sides match the bus paint lob and the texture looks like a western saddle. We decided to go with the tracker batteries from bass pro shops because they are Relion batteries except cheaper. They have a 3 year exchange warranty and a 2 year prorated warranty. They can be exchanged at any Bass Pro, Cabelas, and starting next year Sportsmans. So if there are any problems I can walk in somewhere and physically exchange them. We bought 2 group size 24 60ah batteries for $499.99 each which hurt but they seem to get good reviews. I am not shilling for these I just bought them and have no Idea how they are going to work out so don't blame me If you go buy them and they suck because we will be in the same boat…

The difference… in CA the charge luxury tax on an RV. A van does not get taxed. I don’t miss those tax bills.

Weather is nice work has began anew
Okay I resolved my propane tank problem courtesy of a VW bus AND my stove saga has ended with the acquisition of a NEW force 10 marine stove. I have milled some cool oak from a scrap pile as well as some ironwood from a free dining table thank you Pat at A&K machine and Robert, my best freind’s dad for the wood. The table was in disrepair from sitting outside but it is the one we all sat around as kids. Have the cabinet layout done so I am making a scrap wood butcher block counter top. Starting on cabinetry and electrical next week with any luck. Hope the weather stays good so work can continue…
