I'm gonna do one coat of the flat white on each side of the panels and once they're riveted on, I'll slap another coat on them.

I only managed to get em all primed yesterday. Got busy with some other stuff and decided I'd let the primer dry/cure overnight rather than try to work with the steel too soon. I'm really in no rush anyway.
Heading out with the shorty to start fitting the new panels. Hopefully it all goes as easily as I'm hoping.

seems a tad cooler and less sunny today too.. yesterday was a Hot one...

coming down into florida yesterday there were times the fan on the RedByrd ran flat out for 30 minutes or more to maintain 205-207 temperature.. (thats coolant Outlet temp so the temp of the coolant AFTER the engine has heated it.. doesnt seem too bad to me.. the road air temp reached over 100 at one point.. yeah forget a hatch and fan with that I wanted my A/C!! ha!

I wouldnt have wanted ot be on the roof of a bus yesterday... today is nice!
im watching this so I can ditch my crappy Hatch..

Tomorrow I'm gonna check the weather real carefully. If I can get an early start I may try to paint some, but will likely just replace the factory vent that's still there behind where the hatch was. Its LOUD, a bit leaky, and doesn't do much. SO- off with its head!
Glad I got the hatch out, we've got a ton of rain coming tomorrow night or tuesday.

Seeing this today makes me want to get rid of mine.. I'm usually all for replacing them with new ones but realizing they all crack after a couple years in the UV makes me think I don't need it..

ESP since I have air conditioning the hatch and net are a source of air loss from the bus..

I learned a lot today as always when I come up to your place!! This rocks!! The skoolie way!

A bunch of work, but the leak in the roof of my skoolie was not to be ignored. I cut a big hole well beyond the leak and fabed up a VW like pop to fix the problem. Five years later still no leaks.

I also have been piecing together a stereo system for it.
Got seven Kicker speakers like new from a friend. Two 6" coaxials, two 4x6's, two 6x9's, and a 12" sub.
Now looking for a deal on amps to power all of them.

That's some serious fab skills I don't have or have the tools for.

EC - I was thinking you were going to have all the RV stuff in RYO, having a bath sounds cool but not sure where you'd put it in shorty,
You kinda want to keep the back open, have the lift area clear for mopeds tools parts for RYO etc, it makes a great utility truck

I'm envisioning a "closet" somewhere that will serve as a restroom. Wouldn't have to be huge. Maybe right behind the driver's seat. Maybe we'll just keep a bucket and some TP.
Not really looking to "convert" the shorty, but a little bit of comfort would go a long way. Definitely need to get some comfy seats for passengers.

that shorty definitely would make a better weekend or concert or quick trip to the beach cruiser than RYO, it fits a lot of places and is less noticeable parked someplace..

not sure id want my toilet right behind the driver seat, but then a bucket style toilet with a lid that seals wouldnt be bad. shower pan in the floor that you could cover up wit hsay a wooden platform so when you want to use it as a work truck its a nice platform.. and the "walls" could be a curtain of sorts..

Yeah the "facilities" would be very minimal, but would SURE add to the usefulness.
We think theres plenty room for two mopeds, a bed, a shitter/shower, and enough seating to haul 8 or ten friends around on weekends.
The "bed" will likely be an air mattress stowed somewhere out of the way.

I've REALLY gotta get on fixing the two spots of rust and getting it painted!!!!!!

Hmmm, I'd sure want some sort of handwashing area just because its nice to have. 4x6 speakers would probably be best used as dash speakers, the 6x9s in the back and 6" midship, sub can go anywhere, bass is unidirectional.

ive been trying to figure out where to put speakers in my bus too.. I have the typical little tenny speakers in the ceiling that are terrible.. im thinking even new speakers stuck into a school bus ceiling arent gonna sound very good.. subs are easy, under the seats and done.. im thinking ill put a boxed 10 right behind my driver seat. i thought abiut 6x9s in the area above the windshield where the school lights used to be.. I even have pretty heavy wires already running up there from the dash.. Poly fill the area around the speakers.. poly-fill sure helped on the sound-bar in my jeep.. that area seems similar to the make-up of a jeep sound bar..

Everything will be mounted in their own boxes and mounted to the floor mostly.

I don't have any use for a CB radio anymore. Cell phones killed that dead. All you hear on there now are a few banterings of lot lizards and angry voices in other languages.

The folks at the stereo shops say don't build a speaker into the body of the bus.

Speakers built into the bus interiors was tried in old hippie buses for years, and you can just about imagine how much that might rattle a bus without proper insulation to stop the metal from vibrating. Now our stereos are considerably more powerful, but foam insulation should stop most if not all of the reverberation.

Would it still be wrong to build in speakers in a bus?
