You blazed the trail, I followed.
But I'd been wanting to do this for quite a while. Once you convinced me the 444/545 was ok in a shorty I decided they were so cheap it would be silly NOT to buy one!

Oh- and I forgot a nice update!
I got my buddy Dennis helping me with prep and paint on the shorty this week. He's convinced me since I'm keeping it as a driver to go with single stage acrylic paint. Found some for 60/gal with hardener, in white. The Tiffany blue will cost a bit more.
I'm gonna finish the safety reflective tape and all the adhesives and stuff today.
More to come!!!!!

my DEV was painted with single stage. acrylic? I am pretty sure.. it was considered the mid-grade of the single stages.. it seems to be holding up well.. better than the dual stage red on redbyrd.. or maybe BGA did a better job of prepping than the redbyrd shop.. though the paint shop did a lot.. both busses have seen their fair share of rain and Love-bugs...

im getting ready to upgrade the trans in Red.. its 545 is beginning to show signs it might not be around a whole lot longer.. it doesnt Slip.. but it appears its modulator is shot and probably has been since ive had the bus.. and as I am reading more and more thats the kiss of death to a 545.. and you dont know you are killing it.. im changing the modulator .. these newer 545s use an electric one. instead of a cable..

I noticed a couple times recently the trans would take forever to shift to first gear.. sometimes after you stopped.. so im like.. Now is the time to begin the process to upgrade to a 5 speed lockup..

The friend who's helping me with the prep and paint is a perfectionist, so I'm having to get it into his head that with the amount of acreage of metal on a bus you can't obsess too much.
I'm cool with some orange peel, I just want good coverage and little or NO overspray. We may pull the windows and reseal them while we're at all this.
I'm gonna pull off all the lights, emblems, etc.

There are three antennae on the top edge of the front cap. They're not used for anything anymore, but the only way to get to them is to take off the inside panel of the front cap. I'm thinking of just cutting them off with an angle grinder, then filling the holes. What you think?

That's exactly what I've been doing the past few of days lol. They loaded the bus up with it!
I don't know what I'm using to get the gluey residue off.

After looking at the weather predictions for the next few days through the weekend, I may end up spraying it next week/weekend.
Anyone wanna grill some hot dogs and drink a couple beers next weekend?

I would if I didnt have an event to be here in ohio for on sunday.. my next trip down I might take the DEV, Ive been driving RedByrd, as i realize now, with a bad transmission modulator ever since i got it.. i never had kickdown.. it would shift when it shifted.. regardless of gas pedal.. the modulator never activated so any time I ran full throttle I was running low line pressure through it.. I changed the modulator, now it has nice kickdown like it should, but the transmission i figure is not long for this world.. it doesnt slip but sometimes it fails to downshift to first gear on a stop until after im stopped for like 30 seconds then Ill feel it downshift.. not sure I want to drive it to florida again until I change the transmission.. (which by the way a guy at Navistar when I was getting the modulator said upgrading to OD will likely solve any cooling issues the engine has..)..

when I come back will likely be on memorial day itself so I'll miss the weekend

I want you to drive my bus next time you're out this way. Just to compare.

You JUST have TWO jobs? Oh what I'd do to have ONLY two jobs...... I have FOUR part time jobs and can barely pay the bills....... Average about 74 hours a week, NO overtime......

All the badges, logos, etc are gone now.
Got Dennis coming out this morning to start paint prep.

I'd head out there but I've gotta work.

One full time, one part time. Every other weekend with the full time, part time has been asking a lot from me this month and throw in the other stuff, I'm barely home.
