I wonder if folks would enjoy an oil change vid. I've been messing around with our Gopro. Could show folks how easy and affordable it can be. I get out of it for around $50 or $60 with oil and filter.

You should do a look-over video pointing things out on the bus and engine compartment for people who are unfamiliar too. I think a lot of folks don't consider the CAT because it's different and different is scary.

Yeah that would be a good idea.
There really isn't anything different or scary about these 3126's at all.
What's scary is the low quality of those Navistar timing covers!

This bus is getting some love and PM today.
I've got Transynd and a new spin on filter for the trans. A new Cat fuel filter and a new Napa fuel water separator. A new air filter, oil filter, and enough Rotella to do about 3 changes. Two new batteries and a new rear u-joint.
Ronnie is coming over to show me what's up!
After all this is done I'm probably going to go have the drive tires swapped out, too.
I'm going to have the bushings for the torque arms on the air ride replaced as soon as I can. Gotta order those and it may be cheaper just to buy new torque arms since they come with the bushings already installed and aligned.
Also one front shock's bushings are shot and the rears are pretty shagged too. Will just swap em for new.
I think I've made a breakthrough on the shaking at high speeds. The rear end is too high. According to the Hendrickson service manual for their air ride systems my rear ride height is supposed to measure around 4.375-4.5. Mine is about 5.25 at rest! Those measurements are meant to be taken from the bottom of the frame rail to the top of the main support beam of the air ride system. I think the ride height valve is either out of adjustment or broken. Will look into that today.

On my A3RE the ride height looks easy to adjust my spinning a nut up or down some threads... at each wheel.

This is the standard up/down rod with the valve mounted to a frame crossmember, iirc.
I wonder what system BB was using then. Mines a Hendrickson HAS system.

My 3126 takes 28qt, or 32qt! I'll find out shortly... There seems to be some variance for application... hence my query to ECCB
My oil will not be changed again until the lab (oil analysis) says the oil is no longer in spec...

It takes about 6 gallons.
They were selling Rotella T5 synthetic blend for $21 per 2.5 gallon jug.

Gettin ready to take him and Dee out for some dinner.
Didn't get around to the oil etc, I'll do that tomorrow.

That's a great price!
Good to have that U-joint fixed -- the vibrations can start damaging the pinion and output bearings of the tran...
I imagine in your lighter weight bus the 545 is fine compared to a full sized.
Your diff gears are so low I can't imagine o/d being much use...
Lockup would help with mpg but your roi (to swap an A2000) would take thousands of miles to be worth it.
I guess I'd keep my eye out for a cheap bus with 3126 with A2000 -- be the cheapest way to get all the parts for conversion and have extra engine parts...

In a smaller bus not used in the Rockies I think the 545 is alright. Adequate at best.
I'd jump on a bus in a rusty state if it had REAL nice running gear. Like a rusty OH bus but has a low mile 3126/A2000 combo.
But honestly I'd HAVE to regear to be able to even use OD.
