installing an extra seat up front?

Hi, I am wondering if I need to look for a minibus with a co-pilot seat or if it would be easy to install an extra seat up front (to keep the driver company). Is there enough room with the steps and door up front? If you installed a seat up front can you tell me about how you did it? Thanks for any suggestions!!!

I'm not doing it, but if I did, I would either: A) Leave the closest seat to the driver intact, or B: build a small bench out of 2x4 and plywood and use the cushions from the old bus seats and velcro them onto the bench. However, I would definitely think of installing a seat belt then since they would run the risk of slamming into the windshield or falling into the stairs.

I'm thinking you could find a bucket seat out of some type of vehicle and mount it beside the driver. One thing to consider would be to make sure that there is enough travel in the seat track in order for you to slide it forward out of the way when going in or out the door. Even a passenger seat from a car with a 60/40 split would work. The passenger is the 40 plus if you get one from a 2 door car, the seat generally tilts forward and left to aid in clearance getting in. Just an idea. Good Luck

Re: installing an extra seat up front?

My swivel pedastal is mounted right on the edge of the stairwell-and with the seat slid all the way forward, you can still get a cooler past the back of it. With the dog house on a Ford being wide, you do have to sorta climb over the edge of the seat to get into it, but you are fine once seated. With the right order of sliding the seat+ tilting the back, you can turn the seat almost all the way around. My seats are pretty poofy-and have armrests-you could make more room if you found something smaller. Here it is slid forward.
