Layout input.

Working on my van bus conversion and struggling with the layout I’m not use to doing stuff in such a small space.

Looking for criticism and advice on what I got going on.

Right now it’s just a day trip nice weather adventure rig for a single person. Not full time living. I am a pretty minimalist, person, and all I really want in there is a fridge kitchen with sink (not yet installed) and a lots of laying sitting space. And a composting toilet under the bed. As seen in the photos that’s what I have so far I am left with this unused space on the left. I don’t know if I should make a desk work countertop aera or a couch. Frankly I like the open space and if I add something there it might get too cramped. What would you suggest for a layout.

If you live with it as is for a few trips, you might get some ideas or decide to keep it as is. Personally, I'd get some flip-up table brackets and make a table top that flips up/down. Super simple to install (or remove if you find you don't use it).

I may be a bit of an odd ball, but I've been married 40 years and never have, never will use the bathroom while my spouse is also in the bathroom (showering or whatever)
So, unless you will never have a guest of any type, I'd consider some sort of privacy for the toilet, a curtain at the very least.

Well ... In my plans (18' overall, 12' cabin area!) I'm going for the "sheepherders wagon" theme, Queen bed across the back with a divider underneath, everything in back of the divider - accessible through the back door (water storage, batteries, hoses, etc) Everything in front of the divider - drawers and cabinets for clothing.
Just under the mattress a pull out table that exposes 32" of work area above a set of benches 30" long. ( The bed edge holding the drawers and table) may go to the ceiling to make a divider that could be finished with a curtain.
In front of the tables bench on the drivers side, a 54"x36" alcove for shower and cassette toilet, with a hatch to remove and install the cassette from outside.
In front of the passengers side tables bench, - a very abbreviated kitchen, tiny microwave high up above an 18" counter with a all in one toaster oven / griddle / coffee maker secured to the top. (Dish washing duties confined to a dishpan and a removable rack in the shower! (drinking water from there too!))
A divider to the ceiling in front of the kitchen and a bench with a swivel seat mounted on top for my sweetie, a 60 quart chest fridge / freezer under the bench on rollers. A foot platform in front to keep her legs from dangling.
Starting from the divider behind the passenger seat all the way to the rear, 18" x18" cabinets up high, and from the alcove on the drivers side to the back the same.

To maximize your space you can use a swivel chair for the passenger and driver like you find in some conversion vans..like you put the floor planking across, it makes it feel wider. It looks like your window frames have a seam on the in side. Can you insert a second lexan pane there? That would help with heat and condensation.
Looking good
Good luck
Johan
