Mini bus Diet: Plausible?

Hi guys!

I'm wondering if anyone has experience gutting and weighing a minibus (specifically one built on a E350 chassis from Ford.

Where I am, if a truck is below 4000kg (8800 lbs) it's a personnal vehicule and doesn't need to meet all the strict criteria of heavy artisanal RVs.

So, a standard E350 minibus is rated at 4355kg or 9581lbs.

Anyone knows if it's possible to gut it enough to get under the 4000kg or 8800lbs? That a tall order in my mind... 781lbs!!!

thanks!

That might be gross weight... which is unchanging and independent of what its actual weight is.

I've had accounts of people getting their's weighed at a quarry and taken the weight certificate for plating and it worked.

I was wondering Just how much junk can really be removed from a minibus...

thanks!

As you said, it's *RATED* for up to 9580 pounds. That's fully loaded, passengers, luggage, fuel, driver, tools ... everything. I'm willing to bet it's closer to 5,000 - 6,000 empty (with seats). My Suburban is 4700 (with driver, and I'm close to 300). I'm not sure where you are from, but where I live, anything E-350 (or F350, or the equivalent from other builders) and smaller (nominally known as "1-ton" chassis) can be considered private use. Folks commonly buy F350 trucks (and GM/Dodge equivalents) and use them as private vehicles. I'm reasonably sure I could snag an E350 minibus and easily do the same thing where I live.
