That price seems steep but if you have it checked out and it is in super condition, it might be worth it. You could probably find a bus 10 years newer for the same price.

That looks like a Grumman Kubvan. Those things have a 1.6 VW diesel engine in them.

depends on what your local health department says.

http://www.fda.gov/Food/FoodSafety/Reta ... 122814.htm

As for selling at flea markets. That depends on what type of flea markets you are considering. We used to flea market (it put food on the table). Some of the places we have been would not be able to handle a bus rolling in and setting up. Other would. Your best bet would be a small trailer and a canopy to fit in the 8X10 space that you are often allotted. If you take up more space, then you pay for it... usually you do not get a break for your tow vehicle taking up space. For example... the flea market here in Corpus that we were setting up at. $10 per "space" . Since we had a tow vehicle to tow our cart, we paid for two spaces ($20). If you roll in someplace with a bus, they may charge you for one space (the bus) or they may charge you for how many "spaces" they figure the bus takes up.

If you are seriously considering food vending, then go over to www.roadfood.com and click on Forums. You will need to post in either the Restaurant Professionals or Professional Hot Dog Vendors forums. There are folks there that have Brix-n-mortar restaurant and others who are street/event vendors. Read the forum first (use the search function) then ask questions. They don't like folks who don't do their homework.

Re: newbie looking at 1984 Ford E350 short bus-ice cream tru

Ice cream sales are my realm. I been an Ice Cream Man for 14 years. And I just bought a skoolie to and turned it into my newest truck! Everything matters on the type of ice cream you want to sell. I would suggest starting with novelty then when you get sinks move up to dip and smoothies. I would love to talk to you and clue you in on some trade secrets. I also own 2 soft serve trucks in Portland Oregon and 2 novelty trucks here in Georgia.

Sinks. To do food service you will need one 3 basin sink and one hand washing sink.

PM me if you want to talk. I can save you time and headaches by sharing my woes and conquest!

RE: Food Service... If your largest pan is a 1/3 steam table, then you can use the deep 1/2 steam table pans as sinks. Even three 6" deep water bath pans are smaller than a commercial triple sink. We use a section of ventilated shelving over our sinks as our drain rack. Our hand sink is a 1/3 steam table pan.
