Other Short Buses

Does anyone else get excited when they see another Shortie near by? I think in our little town here in Oregon, there has been an invasion. Since we got ours last year, 2 more have joined the neighborhood. There are now 3 within 4 blocks of each other. I have approached the owners of one of them, they were cordial, but not open. We did give them one of our old bus seats so they could have a passenger seat with belts (their bus had already been gutted). They other one I just discovered. It was hiding in an RV shelter behind a house, I don't believe I have seen it around town. I will walk down and break the ice this weekend. If you have a Shortie here in Oregon, please feel free to message us. We definitely like comparing notes, especially mechanically. It also would be fun to plan a Short Bus camping trip to the coast.

This is a small town/area and I know of about five buses just on my way through town, or were you strictly referring to short buses? My 26' nine window FE beats a 25' five window anytime.

Speaking of the beach, you might enjoy spending the 4th at Lincoln City for the fireworks. It's usually about a 15 or 20 minute display, but the traffic getting back out of town is terrible.

Here in my town I get accounts of the other buses in the area from the local gas station.

I've noticed that after buying our bus back in January I can spot one a mile away. Behind houses, barns or businesses. Its like i have a sixth sense for spotting them now.

Digging my short bus. 5 window Thomas/IHC. Nearly all the shorties I see are cutaway van chassis though!

we have a 5 window thomas/ihc as well. dog nose. we found out it was a cut down larger bus at one point because the ibeams are cut.

we love the shorty, and welded a roof top deck for extra storage and space.

The cut frame may have come from the factory. They routinely "chop" frames then mount short bodies on them. My '46 was originally about three feet longer in the rear but Wayne "cut it to fit". And none too neatly, I might add. Looked like some oxy/acetylene work I might do.

Saw this bus at Lowe's today. Guy bought it for $1500 and uses it as a work van. It was full of tools and parts.

Considering how much pick up truck you get for $1500-hell yea! With plenty of enclosed room-and won't rot out in 2 years.
