Passenger seat side by side with the driver

Hello this is my first post here and I apologize in advance if this subject has been discussed to death with multiple threads, any good links to the discussion on this topic would be appreciated.

I'm looking into the 10-15 passenger shuttle bus conversion and every time I look at one online I try and figure out how you have your partner in crime sit next to you while driving. Is there a safe way to install a seat over the steps next to the bus door? Do most people prefer the electronic door to get the handle out of the equation of the old manual door?

My shuttle has driver and passenger doors just like a van does. The man door is located just behind the passenger seat. Although its kind of rare to find this configuration.

Gracias, at least now I know it's doable. Was wondering if state inspections had regulations on this type of thing but looks like plenty of people have added this feature.

We have hemmed and hawed over this and I think our best solution is a flush mount boat seat pedestal next to the driver (ours is a short conventional with stairs). We can remove it when needed for exit.

Our prior solution, used for tens of thousands of miles in various countries, was a beer crate topped with a cushion, so anything will be an improvement over that!

Yea it do-able. Slide it all the way forward + I can get a cooler past the back of the seat-slide it back and there is limited but tolerable foot room. (depending on year/model due to width of the doghouse.) Also matters is how whatever company cut the floor for the steps.
This is the seat slid+ tilted forward.

You have to climb over the corner of the seat a bit-but its fine once seated. I can still swivel it.

While "onenationundergoat" seat design is awesome, the use of such small screws in the hinges and the lack of a sturdy locky mechanism on the back pegs makes me nervous...

Maybe a trunk latch in the back and some serious, autmotive nut/bolts to hold the hinge would appease my nervousness.

Sure it's in a big bus (so impacts are less worrysome) but looking to doing this in a smaller bus should include something stronger to hold it in place...
