power steering pump

My 1987 Chev C60 w/ Chevy 350 has a leaky power steering pump. Apparently, the power steering pump for this was a bit unique. Chev discontinued it and I have checked with numerous salvage yards and can not seem to find one. Is there somewhere I can send the pump to have it rebuilt (if that is even possible)?

Bummer, I think I have the same pump and it's leaking as well. My bus is also a 1987 C60.

Re: power steering pump

Have you tried removing it and taking it some place like NAPA? Often times there are equivalent parts that can be sourced and having the part in hand makes it easier to identify. Also, a parts place might be able to recommend a rebuild shop.

I think my '91 gasser has the same pump. I suspect a lot of the old farm trucks around here have one quite similar. Unfortunately, my '91 is spoken for after I'm done with it, so I can't offer parts.

Good luck,
jim

Re: power steering pump

I think you'll find that the only thing unique about it is that extra reservoir on top. Chevy used that basic pump for many years on pretty much everything. I would think you would be able to find something with a similar bolt pattern. If I remember correctly some had a reservoir that was separate with hoses going to it. Where exactly is it leaking, the large "tin can" has an o-ring where it meets the main cast part right behind the pulley. I think everything is held together by the screw in fittings at the back, which also have o-rings. We used to fix them all the time.

The nice thing about "old things" is that they were made to take apart and be fixed.

X2... Looks like a remote reservoir GM pump to me... Check out 1 ton Chevy's from the same era...
