I've bought vehicles that the mechanics had lined up for themselves through the auction. Technically they shouldn't be able to bid as a conflict of interest. .

I think its probably as easy as having their girlfriend or her cousin bid on their behalf.
Shaun said he definitely wasn't happy about the bus being sold.

THIS very thing is why columbus schools requires busses going to auction... I mentioned it in another thread that mechanics and / or fleet managers were deeming perfectly good busses as worthless and selling them off cheap to churches / individuals, etc. at least being forced to auction means that anyone could bid the prices up beyond what said "pet" would pay.. so columbus positively will not sell a bus to anyone directly no matter what..

50 MPH at 2000 RPM? is he driving that thing in '4' instead of 'D'? or if it has (D) and D is he in D?

I made him send me a picture to verify, and he's in D.
Its electronically limited to 50.
This WILL be fun to tune!!!

but 2000 RPM at 50 bothers me... thats a .74 overdrive.. the 466E is done at 2600 RPM or so.. should be able to snake 65 out of it..

The low profile tires probably are why the rpm's aren't lower.
Cruising at 2000 rpm is pretty gentle, though. Poor Shaun, he's a real awesome guy to put up with 50 mph for a thousand miles.
I'm gonna see about trying to get a ride north and meet up with him.
Would it even be going fast enough to shift into 5th? I've never had this type of transmission, so its new to me entirely. My 4 speed was barely into 4th at like 45mph on that last shorty.

depends on how that 2000 is getting its throttle info.. if he is running it floor boarded and it uses absolute TPS then yeah it would likely drop to 4 and stay there.. if its using engine loading factor then it would go to 5.. mine for instance goes to 5 at about 47 whem im at light throttle but if I have it punched it will stay in 4th.. so yeah if he backs of the pedal or cruise is enabled then ot very well might have another gear..

Sometimes the auction terms specify this. I saw one district in Florida that said a CDL was required to drive the vehicle from their property. If you know upfront you can make arrangements, but any seller imposing new terms after the fact is breaking the terms of the auction site, and they should be told.

They definitely should have said "send your ID and a CDL driver". They did not.
I think they were just being jerks to Shaun. Which, as anyone who's met him knows, you have to be a real jerk to be mean to Shaun. He's just the NICEST guy! These folks at Cleveland ISD sure had him upset.

Has anyone here ever gotten a dealer or service center of any kind to raise the top speed? I thought maybe I could call ahead of him somewhere and have them raise it. Would probably eat up as much time as it would save, but it may beat going 50 in 70 zones.

He says other than no wipers and tape all over the gauge panel, its good to go. Just needs a MAJOR cleaning inside it, they're saying.

That panel is exactly like mine!

Is yours broken and taped on?

I Wish I'd sent you to deal with the folks at that school!
You could have unleashed the Springer beast mode on them!!

that dash panel you have is pretty standard, it works on the same principles as your old and and mine, the senders for the fuel gauge are identical, and the 5 main gauges get their feed from the ECM on the J1708 link... that ECM still uses 1708 for diagnostics and J1939 for the transmission.

the difference between 50 and 70 is big, however by the time you have to sit and wait a few hours at a service center to get in, you end up eating a bunch of time.. if it were mine, id just drive it home and enjoy the trip then change the program. it looks like im going to be heading to Miami possibly as early as next week.

Roger is a hell of a guy!

Shaun and Nicole are making pretty decent time considering their speed. They're saying they think they're going to make it home by tonight.

They ended up staying in north FL last night, so today's the big day.
Can't wait to get back in the bus ride game!

And after checking under the hood, Shaun's confirmed the computer is marked 215hp. SWEEEET.
