With 40hp more than our last bus, and an extra gear it really should be!

I asked shaun to count the gears/shifts and he doesn't think its getting fast enough to go in to 5th gear.
I wonder if the OD has ever been used!

it wouldve shifted into OD if he didnt floorboard it.. from what ive seen of my J1939 link on mine, the ECM still reports full throttle to the TCM even if the engine is defueling.. the only exception is when on Cruise-Control. so if he is out driving it floored it wont see OD, if he lets off when it reaches 50 it likely might.. allison's like to get into the highest gear as fast as they can but will also do their best to stay in a lower gear when the pedal is metaled.

from what ive seen of other Texas busses, id be surprised if it was geared low enough to be in OD at 2000 RPM / 50 MPH. doesnt seem to be what many hear have experienced.. your OD will be a .74 I believe if thats a 2500 trans which is the most common version of the 2000 in a school bus.

almost time to PARTY!!!!

I should really be on the lookout for a bus similar to this. It ticks all the boxes. Sport Bus 2.0, bigger, longer, and uncut.

You gotta be ready for that bus to get there. Glad all went smoothly for them. They are really a nice couple, and didn't deserve any, of what ever BS they received from the folks at the pick up. I'm betting, that after being limited to 50 mph, they will be happy to be home, too.

It does look to be a really nice bus from the few pics he's sent so far.

Stay vigilant and you'll score one if you start watching.

Well I just got word they're going to be home within the hour. Heading out to see this bus. Will probably change the oil and get right to work trying to figure out what works and what doesn't.
REALLY hoping to have it fully painted within a month, but we'll see how it goes.

If you need to do any air conditioning work and don't mind it still not working afterwards, hit me up!

So the air conditioning... I can't find any button to turn it on. None of the buttons are working except the lights and the throttle control button. The rest do nothing. Even the dome lights are not working. The dash is destroyed. The gauges mostly work.

Ran out of daylight changing the oil and then replacing the air filter.

The bus is FAST. To 50 mph anyhow. This would be one to run if we ever have a "bus day" at the track lol.

The engine feels AWESOME. The transmission, too.
The body is rust free and nearly flawless. not any real dents or dings to speak of.

More to come, I'm beat and I need to roll another one.

Need some more tape? Sorry, couldn't resist.

I'm very jealous of your powerplant. I still think of putting one of the 8.3s in this rig.

I went out with Roxy to show her, she'd just gotten home from work.
Everything electrical is dying one at a time. The daytime running lights stopped most recently.
I'm thinking this has to something easy, like a bad ground or something.
Oh, the fun already has begun!

make sure you dont just have a battery issue.. use your meter and measure the standing voltage at your batteries. with the bus off... then start it and measure with running at the batteries...
then measure it in the morning standing voltaghe after sitting overnight..

I'll do that.
They're old, swelling batteries. Its got 3 group 31's. They seem to be pretty solid for their age, but I'd not hesitate to get some Rural King batteries to replace them if they are bad. Sucker starts right up and has bright headlights for a change!

Top those batteries off with distilled water and get a slow charge on them for 24 hours.

And check what Christopher suggests before charging.

They may have been low for the trip back. I hope they are not toast.

Here we go!
