Have you looked into the Blackstone Lab thing?
Send them a sample and they can tell you how much life is left and anything different to do like this sample had a little to much (example?sulphur?) in I but with the fresh change you just did and another change in 3000 miles instead of the recommended 6000 miles then your transmission should last another 350,000 if the manufacturers maintenance is kept up with.
It like 50$ A sample but cheap insurance to me?

Not a bad idea, but I'll have new fluid in it, and both filters replaced so I'll not bother.
I know folks running these trannies that have never even checked their level. I'm sure it'll be fine after I get this fluid and filter job done.

Out of a bit of frustration, I sent the school this-

Quote:
I've been polite, treated you all with courtesy. Why has everyone there been so cold and unwilling to be courteous?
I was told the bus would come with fuids topped off. It did not. My driver says that he was treated somewhat rudely by some of the staff.
I asked for the service records so that I can begin to fix the many problems the bus came with, and have gotten no response. I don't mean to be a burden to anyone, and certainly hate to cause anyone any grief. But several things on the bus seem terribly amiss and I'm trying to get ahold of any maintenance history or logs so that I can begin to get the bus' problems sorted.
The mechanic gave my driver a hard time. Tried to hassle him about having a CDL, even.
I've bought buses all over the country, this is the only time we've had any problems.
Whoever made the auction listing used older pictures and failed to mention lots of problems the bus has. The tires were listed as "good" when four of them are bald. That's just one example, but there are many aspects of this bus that appear to be either purposely sabotaged or the product of someone working on it who has no business working on buses.
I'd REALLY appreciate the service records, so that I can try to sort out the huge mess that is this bus, PLEASE!
They responded with this-
Quote:
I’m sorry that you have had a bad experience. This is actually the first time I am aware of that we have had any issues with any bus that we have sold. I am including the Transportation Director in this response so he can try to resolve this issue because I do not have access to the maintenance records on the buses. Mr. Hoagland should be able to help you.
Hopefully "Hoagland" isn't he bus mechanic guy that gave Shaun a hard time.

I'm pleased you followed this up. Maybe next time they will treat folk better. If you don't get a satisfactory resolution, you should let the auction site know too. We take enough risks buying at auctions without sellers playing stupid games.

By the way, I bought mine from Coach Masters, Inc vis Purple Wave. Coach Masters took it in PX from a local school district, so they were selling on their own behalf.

They didn't even make sure the air pressure in the tires was correct before letting it out on the road. All the fluids were low. Engine oil off the stick when I got home, transmission fluid equally poor. Coolant expansion tank empty and there is an oil leak at the front of the engine somewhere. It's not a bad leak, but it's there and if it's the crankshaft seal it's going to be leaking a long time

There are other faults which, while minor, should have been mentioned. I am the least experienced School Bus driver you have ever met, and I spotted most of them within the first 20 miles, so they really can't say that they didn't know.

Enough ... It's a good bus and it will only get better.

Yeah, its a good bus. I bought it for the rust free body and chassis. And that 215hp DT under the hood! The allison 2000 and AC were just bonuses.

GOt a long way to go to get this thing where I want it to be.
I did some measuring and I think I can easily swap 10R's onto it with plenty of clearance. 10R's will make it ride better and give me better cruising rpm's out on the freeways.

Other than having some electrical problem causing the switches not to work, I LOVE the bus.
Busted up dashboard aside, its in great shape.
I'm forever spoiled now by the power of the 466 and the od and lockup of the 2000 trans.

Good move, it saved my engine by finding an intake leak!

Went out to the bus today and Roxy cleaned the drivers area and dash up with some wipes while I removed more decals and adhesive.
IDK if I've mentioned it, but the "Whizzy Wheel" is nowhere near as good as the 3m basic puck. Its a lot slower, and wears out a lot faster.

Threw our new FL plate on the bus and took it for a proper spin around town. Filled it with diesel and ran a heavy dose of HotShot's fuel additive. Smells like Diesel Kleen, but maybe stronger.

It runs better than anything else I own.
Its hard to see because of the taped dash, but its limited to 55, not 50, and at 55 it looks to be at about 1800 rpm in 5th gear. Once I put full size tires on it, this thing will own the interstates!

Friends from the forum here, Josh and Hillary aka Brokedown, are coming out some time soon and I'm hoping Josh can help me figure out why none of my electrical switches/accessories are working. If we can't figure it out, Chris will hopefully be down around Xmas some time.
