One of the techs was really enamored with the bus. Seemed to think I got a really good deal, despite the coolant leak. We started talking buses and mechanical vs electronic. They said the mechanical engines were MUCH better built and lasted twice as long. Then the Vt-365 came up. They said to avoid it at all costs. They even called it a boat anchor. "Folks with those engines end up working on them more than driving them" was one comment.

I think the key to the VT-365 is that it has to be maintained extremely well from the beginning.. ive talked to those with them running many many miles but the common theme is they owned it from the beginning and are meticulous about the maintenance.. esp coolant and oil maintenence..

when we buy a used school bus we have no idea really whether they checked the coolant chemicals, changed it on time, used distilled water or tap water or even brand of coolant...

oil is the same way.. maybe there are some service records but they arent often super detailed so its tough to know exactly what was done..

just like this bus.. Idont think Navistar spec'd "blue coolant"..

did that dealer guy give you any idea of what the correct coolant mixture / brand / type and procedure is for that bus?

that mechanics sentiments echo what ive been hearing as I tlak to people.. that the rear part of the cover rarely ever goes bad in the coolant leak situation..

They said the coolant was Fleetguard. They said I could run any color as long as I stayed on top of it.
I'll be running Shell yellow ELC when I get this fixed.

Good deal.

Get the CD with the FSM and take it to Kinkos. Print 4 copies and price will go down, sell the other 3 to Board members.

Good Luck. At least you aren't working on it where it gets -18 at night.

I'm normal, the rest of the world went crazy around me sometime in the early 80s.

We spent the day yesterday partying for my 38th bday which is actually in a couple days. Went out to downtown Orlando to a retro arcade/bar. Got plastered and had a great time.
We lost roxy's wallet in the orlando ghetto getting the bus home. Cancelled all the cards and stuff, but spent the day today driving around looking for it.
Just happy to have the bus back at Shauns with some sort of plan in place to fix it.

I don't know how the hell you count FL summers (Mar-Oct for non-FL peeps) are "normal".

Good deal. Now, about those cool scar photos?

I dunno how that would work. Better make sure when you go ordering parts. I don't see how you can use a new front with an old rear. I'd say just get an old front. Even if you fill it with the crap antifreeze, you'll get your original mileage on the bus. And that's worse case. How many of us need to get another 120~150k miles on it

Sorry, meant to get back to you on that offer.
I mean, I'd love to have a manual but I feel bad asking for folks to BUY me one.
