Can the cover be repaired (as in cleaned and TIGed)? At that point, it would just be labor and gaskets/seals. I've seen timing covers repaired/welded many times and never have an issue out of them.

No its not cracked or pinholed. On the front engine cover, it wears out at the thin sealing surface and O-ring/gasket seal and leaks from the seam where the water channels in the front cover go into the engine. Supposedly from running the red coolant, but mine came with blue coolant.

the biggest thing here is this bus should come apart.. i didnt realize the leak was so bad.. so the tablets are likely not gonna help.. the gasket is either completely destroyed or the cover is damaged..

no, I rented the one to get the balancer off of my 444E.. then I had to rig up the tool a bit to get the balancer back on.. .the bolt wasnt long enough ..
NEVER beat a balancer back on.. destroys the main bearings...
from what I hear the 466E balancer is pressed on with pretty good force..
even my 444E balancer was on good.. I busted my consumer grade balancer puller... impact wrench ripped the threads right out of it.. so I rented a pro one from advance Auto and it worked good..
rapped on it for awhile with a 1/2 air impact turned up 3/4 of the way and 90 PSI air.. took about a mionute to get it to start coming loose..

I've been told never to use an impact on those.
And yeah, i'd NEVER beat on a balancer. At least for the 466 you're supposed to heat the balancer to around 250 degreees and put it on.
Roxy's uncle Bob is the fleet maintenance manager at a local precast concrete company. He has several DT's, Cats, Cummins, John Deere, and other diesels in the fleet. I'll be seeing him in a few days. We'll have plenty of time to talk about it at the family Christmas get together.
I'm hoping he could lend me a hand. He's been working on Diesels his whole life, but he's old and VERY grumpy and I don't think he likes messing with stuff outside of work. But maybe he can loan me some tools, or maybe even see if one of his underlings at the plant wants a little side work.

thats a badass bus!!!!
the impact you arent suppose to use is to run the center bolt back in, the navistar dealer themselves told me it was ok to use an impact on the puller bolt to pull off the old balancer. because you arent impacting the crankshaft directly or the threads of the crank. was told never to use an impact to tighten the crankshaft center bolt to pull the balancer onto the shaft..
the installer tool threaded all the way into the shaft. and then an adapter with large threads to tighten it down.. no impact on that..
I LOVE the chromies!!! if the chrome grills were done better id probably go for that on mine but the ones out dont look right.. you have the newer front-end style which chromes out extremely well..
I love my wheel sims compared to the black rims. but man you are so right nothing looks as good as a set of Alcoas!! I just have those darn 8 lug hubs...
I just chalk it up to "in my next bus ill have..."..

looks like a bus ronald mcdonald would drive to a party or rave. I like it but not sure about that hood chrome piece. Looks like they make some aftermarket headlights for it..

im not a fan of bug shields and visors but I like other chrome bits.. the headlights are the same ones i have on my DEV bus they are a 6054 LED headlamp.. they do OK but spew light.. . the corner markers are modified.

my issue with the visor is loss of visibility.. pull out into an intersection to make a left and in ohio many of the lights are in the middle of the intersection instead of far side so then you lose sight of the light.. seems florida is better about having the lights far-sided. personal preference i guess.. they do look cool on the outside though..
nothing can block the view of the duck!!

wow second one this week... one of the ones in columbus burned this week.. fireman friends tell me those are some of the worst buildings to fight fires in... when they originally built alot of those they drywalled the ceilings.. then in a remodel simply put a 4 inch drop in.. then the roof is a a series of semi-closed facade sections that are almost impossible to put fires out in..
