rust on the roof

I was on a ladder yesterday and saw that I have a small patch of rust on a roof seam. I have not removed my ceiling yet, so don't know if it has rusted through, but I doubt it.
I will use rust convertor and than prime over it. My question is should I strip the surrounding paint with aircraft remover first, or just use the convertor.
Thanks in advance

I would not use aircraft stripper near any seams. If you read the label on the "aircraft stripper" you will see it says " do not use on aircraft", that's because it can get into seams where you can't flush it out and continues to cores the metal. Just sand the rusty area and then converter and paint.

I would seal the roof with an elastomeric coating after cleaning the rust off. It will help seal those seams and keep the interior cooler.
