Two brand new batteries installed on freshly painted tray. Note the scratch to the right of the batteries. These things are a pain. They get scratched up as soon as you use em!

my thomas had a piece of plywood under the batteries in the tray?
might be why i had to build a new slider tray?
cause the plywood held moisture and rotted it out?
is the plywood even needed?
was taught along time ago that when charging a battery to never set it directly on the ground or directly on a metal work bench so i never really questioned my plywood in the bus but now that i think about it all of my old trucks had the battery setting in a metal tray with nothing in between?

Yeah, that thing about the batteries on the ground or concrete is an old wives tale. I used to believe that. But I've since found out it was just a myth.

Yeah, or you could drill a hole through the tray and the bottom of the compartment it sits in and run a bolt though it. The levers are easier to use, the bolt is easier to do.

I do find the levers make nice handles to pull the tray out with.
(My rust on rust has a lot of resistance...)

We bummed around Georgia a bit last week staying away from people just us and the river on our boat. Missed seeing you two.

Sure 'nuff does! I use them even after I rebuilt my compartment with new bearings. It is now slowed down by all of the parallel runs of 2/0 wires connecting the four batteries in parallel and to the chassis and house.

Mine has no bearings or anywhere they'd go. Maybe yours has em since you run twice the batteries as mine.

Unless it's one of those weird "build your bus" options...
Our battery boxes are way taller than they need to be...
Our trays are meant to sit on 1" roller bearings in frames strong enough to hold the weight of the batteries.
Native posted pix to my "build" thread but I'm sure he has them elsewhere too
of how he rebuilt these parts.

In the 5 I've owned they've all come set up like mine now. Never have I seen bearings on a battery tray.

Here you go:
The tray slides are much like a drawer slide. The bearings are at the ends of the slides, one at each end os each half of the slide. There are two slides per tray. In the picture above, the bearings look like washers.

Mine looks like it was as well. But all mine have just been flat flanges that slide on the compartment floor under a lip.
I wonder if yours originally had an 8D.
